My grandfather Francis (Frank) McPhillips was born at Killane 4 June 1866. I know nothing about his parents except that his father was either John or James and his mother was Mary McCabe. His father died on 15 July 1914. If anyone knows how I can find out anything more about this family I would love to hear. They were Roman Catholic.

Hi Kiwi
There are no birth/baptism records for Francis McCabe in Wexford (where Killane is).
However I stumbled onto this record which seems to fit - at least with mother's surname & the parish name - KILLAN
Name:Francis McPhilipsDate of Birth:
Date of Baptism:25-Nov-1868Address:AnnaghierinParish/District:KILLANNGender:MaleCountyCo. Cavan

Father:Owen McPhilipsMother:Bridget McCabeOccupation:Sponsor 1 /

Informant 2:Anne McCabeTranscription errors, miscalculation or late baptism could account for the 2 year difference - 1866 to 1868.

I have some DNA matches to McPhilips but they are liinked to McCagh not McCabe, I was intrigued so I did a quck search. When searching, it's best to search using mcphi* rather than McPhilips or McPhillips as it seems to have changed from person to person.

Yes! This is the family. Thank you.. six of the brothers emigrated to New Zealand including Frank. One sister went to New York..married name Dawson I think. The othe sister married in Ireland married name Mullin or Mullen or Mullen’s. Terence stayed in Ireland also. I met one of Terence’s daughters many years ago in Ireland and her physical resemblance to my aunt here in New Zealand was striking.
my DNA hasn’t brought out any obvious links to others from McCabe or its variants or McPhi* as yet. If any other clues come up for the family I would love to know.
Best wishes, Kiwi
