I am researching the family of Mary Moulton (nee Matthews)  who died at 43 Rathgar Rd. Dublin in 1861 at the home of her Son In Law, Samuel Gore Downes.  Mary was the widow of Abraham Moulton who served in the 23rd Light Dragoons and drowned in Hyde Park. London in 1806 whilst Mary was pregnant for her fifth child.  She later moved her family to Ireland.  She had a son Abraham Matthews Moulton born 1798, a daughter Mary Maria Moulton born 1800 and who married Charles Lilley Louch in 1831 Dublin.  She also had a daughter Elizabeth Anne Moulton born between 1801 and 1806 who married Samuel Gore Downes and had 8 children in Dublin and from what I have been told, there were also two more daughters born between 1801 and 1806.  I am looking for the details of the 4 girls and their mother Mary Moulton.  I know that the son Abraham Matthews Moulton eventually migrated to Western Australia in 1833.  Can anyone out there help with the information I am seeking please.

  • Good Morning

If you have a look at www.irishgenealogy.ie you may be able to find out more. I had a quick look and located a baptism record for a Charles Lilly born to a father Hamilton Lilly and mother Eliza on 12th November 1796.

There are some Moulton marriages there but I couldn?t see any to directly link to your search. Have a look and let me know what you think. You have something of an advantage given the uncommon surname.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Clare,

Thanks for your reply, I did check that Charles Lilly entry and it does sound similar but from what I have been given Mary Maria Moulton's husband was Charles Lilley Louch and born in 1798 Somerset. England, however I will keep looking, anything is possible I guess.

    Regards Vickie
