Following my post of September 4 re the possible connection between the Jackson and Ward families in Dublin I have come upon a 1901 census that lists members of the Ward family living at Mander's Terrace, Rathmines & Rathgar East:
Charles Ward age 42
Anna Maria Ward (nee Jackson) age 42
Frederick Charles Ward age 20
Wm. Henry Ward age 19
Robert James Ward age 17
George Victor Ward age 10
The family was still at this address in the 1911 Census although two of the children, William Henry and George Victor were no longer living with their parents.
I would like to be able to reach current descendants of this family in the hope that they can fill in some of the information/records that may have been lost

Hi Bryce
There are 147 Wards in Dublin in the Irish phone book & 17 Jacksons
You might want to trawl through to see if any are in the areas you want.
There was no record of the marriage on www.rootsireland.ie/ but there is one on www.irishgenealogy.ie/ (a free site)
I can't upload it so will type it out:

Dear ColCaff,
Many thanks for the marriage record - I do appreciate your help. However, I fear it must be the wrong record. The records I have show a marriage of Charles Ward and Anna Maria (not Anna Marie) Jackson in the Oct-Dec quarter, 1879, in Dublin North. The 1901 and 1911 censuses show them to have had 4 children, all boys - Frederick Charles (b.1880), Wm.Henry (b.1881-2), Robt.James (b.abt1884) and George Victor (b. abt. 1891). They also show them as living at Mander's Terrace, Rathmines and Rathgar East. Would I be seen as unreasonable if I asked whether it is possible for you to pursue that information a little further in order to help me get a little closer to identifying living descendants whom I may be able to correspond with and who may be able to cite family history that may have been lost in 1922 and not available to me? It would be very helpful to me and I would be most grateful.
Again, my thanks. It is refereshing to be able to reach someone in Ireland who is not commercially involved in Irish family history. You can be asssured that I will refer friends to Ireland Reaching Out and I will continue to patronise your site.
Regards,
bryceaj

Hi Bryce
I assumed you did not have a marriage record as your post said that you were looking for a connection between the 2 families but I gues you meant you wanted to connact with possible descendanst.
If you don't get any descendants repying to your post I suggest you try the phone book suggestion as we have had successes from people writing to current family members.
I'm sorry to disappoint you but I'm not in Ireland (though I've been there 4 times); I live in Australia but do a lot of volunteering on the site.
I forgot to include the date of the marriage record I mentioned: 2nd October 1879
I also checked the Marie / Maria question and it was MARIA as you said
The Irelandxo site copes with an amazing volume of enquiries so maybe you'd like to do some volunteering at some stage

Col,
Many thanks. I didn't realise that you were not in Ireland but I guess the shorts and house style should have given me a clue that you were in Oz.
The suggestion of doing a surname search in the Dublin phone book is a good one and I would like to follow up on that and write to some or all of the 17 Jacksons in Dublin. I have googled Dublin phone books but was faced with a long list of sites - do you have any suggestions as to the best site to use to do a surname search on Jacksons in Dublin. Can you tell me which site you looked at to find the 17 Jacksons?

I used eircom but had great difficulty getting it to work!
If you can't get it to work if you give me an email address I'll scan the page to you as I can't upload it here much to my frustration!

ColCaff,
Thanks for the offer of help re finding Jacksons in the Dublin phone book. I too found it impossible to open eircom - it simply would not open. However, I succeeded with a site called 11890. I found 14 Jacksons in Dublin City Centre but when I expanded it to include all the suburbs I found so many that it would be very difficult to select targets for letters because I have no idea where the current generations would be living. I probably need to find ways to identify more recent generations so as to narrow the field.
Thanks again for your ehlp.
Bryce
PS If you happen upon any information you think may be useful to me re Jacksons and Wards, my email address is bryceaj@ozemail.com.au and I am in Sydney.
