Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ?browse? an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.

Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870-are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Thanks!  I have tried the Irish Times, and the local Catholic records, which is where I found Patrick's brothers and sisters.  I accessed them through the LDS microfilm loan program.  I appreciate your suggestions.

iI have an interest in a Walsh family from Mong. Judith Walsh was baptised on 19-4-1820 and her parents were James and Mary .In 1854 she travelled to Melbourne  and was met by Anastasia Mornane (Walsh)- I presumed she was a cousin or sister She returned in 1855 to be married in the Mong chapel to Edward King also from  Melbourne  ex County Clare- the couple returned to Melbourne  in 1856 - had 4 children and remained in Victoria till their deaths

I only learned yesterday that Anstice (Anastasia)was a girls name -so perhaps Judith was met by her sister/-( baptised 2-1-1814)

Judiths siblnigs are listed as John- who I have found lived to 98yrs (baptised 15 -8-1805),Patrick,Peter,Edward,Anstice ,Wiliam and Laurence.

I have more information about Anastasia(Anstice) - her successful husband was a publican in Melbourne

My paternal grandmother was Johanna Walsh b1873 Mong. Her brother John (Mong) whose children were John b 1903, Peter b 1905 , Johanna b 1902  are my father’s  (William Walsh b 1907) first cousins. James Walsh and Mary Reilly/ Ryley are my gr gr gr grandparents .  I would love to correspond with distant cousins to exchange information.

What a great Christmas present -- to learn of new Walsh cousins!  My gr-gr-great grandparents are also John Walsh and Mary Reilly.  I am descended from Patrick.  Are you descended from his brother John Walsh and Johanna Lyng?  I have a copy of a letter addressed to  another Walsh cousin from Fr. John Walsh -- who may be your great uncle?

Came across this thread by accident during at 4am google search. I'm not related but one of my earliest memories is an elderly Peter Walsh of Mong sitting in my grandfather's sitting room in Upper Kilmurry chatting away to him. Almost certain he was a smoker because I recall the ashtray being out when he was there.

He lived in small stone cottage, since demolished, with no electricity or any mod cons, on a small hill affectionately known by all Mongmacodians, past and present, as Peter's Hill.

Hello!  and thank you for posting about an old cousin and sharing his story.  What a treat!  Peter wrote to me back in the 80's when I was first starting to explore our common ancestors, and I understand he has since passed away.  Another cousin remembered Peter and his brother riding their bicycles to Kilmurry for the fall thrashing.  

I look forward to visiting Peter's Hill some time, hopefully next year.
