I am looking for birth or marriage info on my great great grandparents:

Thomas Lane b. 1814 Limerick I don't know the parish. Elizabeth Mangan b. 1823 Kilrush parish, Co. Clare. They came over to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada @ 1841 where they had 9 children.

Information on their birth or marriage in Ireland is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Jim

Thanks for getting in contact and leaving your query. Having a place name of origin is an important part of your research in Ireland. Here are some websites that will help you find new information:

     http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/

( For the place name you know search under Roman Catholic Parish map, if Catholic, Co Clare. Kilrush is included under St Senans and you will find the available records there)

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, Quebec etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

  • I am a looking for the same information. I am a descendant of Ann Monica Lane - Thomas' sister who also went to Quebec City but likely a bit later, around 1852, after Thomas was in Quebec. I don't have her birth details but believe she born between 1825 & 1830.

From a 1871 Quebec Cenus there was a woman ( aged 87)  living with Thomas that appears to be his mother - Bridget Lane B 1784

The 1852 Census says Thomas b 1815 is from Limerick Ireland & Elizabeth Mangan b 1823 from Killrush Ireland.

I am interested in any info on their parents and where they may have lived. Ann Lane married a John Price and had a child Andrew William B 1851, before moving to Quebec where she had another child (Thomas Price) in 1855 that died at birth.  She was then widowed and remarried a widower James Kennedy (of Ireland - potentially of co Tipperary) in 1859 in Quebec. She had 3 sons with James Kennedy.

They appear to have had a sister Mary Lane b. about 1820 - who married a Thomas Burke ( of Ireland) - they had a son Thomas born in Quebec around 1844 . The Quebec 1852 census for Mary Lane & Thomas Burke just says Ireland.

Ann Monica Lane & John Price do not appear in the Quebec 1852 census which supports that they came to Quebec later.

It would seem, that Thomas & Mary went to Quebec about the same in early 1840's.

Thomas Lane & Elizabeth Mangan's first son John Bernard was born in Quebec in 1843 & Michael in 1845 in Quebec.

Any information , or suggestions on how to find more information on the Lane familty would be appreciated.

Also looking to trace James Kennedy but have no information on him other than a birth about 1825. He married a Mary Morrisey and had a child Catherine Kennedy in Quebec in 1857. Mary died in 1859. He married the widow Ann Monica Lane in 1859 as well.
