Looking for Ducey, Doocy or variants in co Waterford, parish of Stradbally.  I obtained records thru Roots Ireland, and found my great great grandparents marriage;  James Doocy, Mary Power married in 1828, Stradbally Parish. (RC) Several of their children including my great grandmother Mary Doocey, baptized in march of 1840, plus several of her siblings; Brigid, Patrick, Margaret, Catherine, and twins Ann and Johanna.  They emmigrated to the USA, probably father first and children later around 1853.  we think Mary Power may have died in Ireland as we find no records of her here in the USA.

We plan a trip to Ireland in the future and would love to connect with possible family to correspond with and learn about the area where my ancestors originated.  As I have no idea what the area is like, and have no idea how to try and find relatives; any advice is much appreciated.  For instance, what is the parish church for that area, cemeteries, etc.

In the US most of them settled in the Cincinnati Ohio area, and also into Ky working on RR construction.  I have a lot of informaton on the USA end, but am intrigued to learn about the Ireland end.

Thank you for any information, and am willing to share anything I have from records obtained.

  • Thank you Elaine!

I actually have the records from Roots Ireland for James and Mary's marriage Feb. 17, 1828, as well as my ggrandmother Mary's Baptism.  She was Baptized March 22, 1840.  It had an address on the record of Ballinavaloona.  In the USA they spelled their last name Ducey, and on the Irish records I have found it spelled Doosey, Doosy, and even Deucy.

I am hoping to figure out what church they would have used there, and maybe even cemeteries in that area so I can try and locate Mary (nee Power).  James Ducey was in Cincinnati, we have his cemetery info but no Mary Power  in the US so we think she might have died in Ireland and never made it to the USA.

I have seen that Power(s) is very common there, and there were also Powers in Cincinnati but we aren't sure if any were related.

From other Baptismal records we have found the name Carrigbarron listed as an address.  Am thinking all these places are in the same general area?

Thanks for responding, it is exciting to get replies!
