Hi, Looking for the family of Thomas Farrell bn in 1823 and emigrated in the early 1850's but by 1856, with a brother whose name has not yet been identified. He was born in Ballymoney in Antrim which is all the information we have on location at this time. We do not know parents names. I know this is not much information but we continue to seek for additional information on him and his family. We know our family named everyone after everyone which was common naming pattern and his oldest son was named Henry. Since this was not the name of Thomas father in law we thought it could possibly be the name of his (Thomas) father. He had two other sons Thomas and James. The James was after his wife's father. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Kathy

Hi, I should have included that. He was Catholic. To the best of my knowledge he was raised Catholic as the family in the states were all raised Catholic. Thanks!

The births are all long before the start of statutory registration in Ireland (1864) and so normally you would have to rely on church records. Unfortunately there are no RC records for Ballymoney earlier than 1853, so I suspect you may not be able to trace your family (certainly from that source).
If the family lived in Ballymoney then they were probably tenants of the Earl of Antrim. The Antrim estate papers have been deposited in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast (D2977). There are 2 books per year, detailing all the tenants. The series start around 1820. You might want to go through them looking for Farrell tenants. That might throw up one or two families and addresses. (These records are not on-line and a personal visit to PRONI is required to access them).
