My ancestors were Daniel Carleton and his wife Elizabeth. They were residents of Ballinderry by Moneymore. They left Ireland in 1848 with their son Daniel and his family. Their daughter Mary Jane Carlton married John Port. John and Mary Jane left Ireland in the 1830s and settled in Indiana. When the Daniels (Sr. & Jr.) arrived in the United States they headed to Indiana where they settled near Mary Jane. John Port died soon after arriving in Indiana. Mary married a second time to Jacob Troxell. Mary was born/baptized on June 16, 1805. Daniel Sr. was born about 1768. Daniel married Elizabeth about 1801. Their other children were: Elizabeth (b. 1801) who married Samuel Port, brother to John; David Carlton (b.1803); Samuel Carlton (b. 1807); and Margaret (b. 1813). Daniel jr. was born May 8, 1811 and married Nancy Mcelroy.

Hi Deborah,
Thanks for the great information!
Have you tried checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) for any of the family's relatives in Ireland? The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38): Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
You might try contacting the Derry Genealogy Centre for some further assistance. http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/Derry-Genealogy-Centre-Londonderry-Derry-P2993
All the best
