I am looking for any Crow or Cowan family members that may still be in the Derry/Londerry area.   We have George Crow who was born on 24 March 1822 in Co. Derry and we think he was Presbyterian.  His father was John Crow who was born in Co. Derry in 1793.  George had two known siblings born in Ireland - Alexander born 1820 and Nancy born in August 1827.  George married Sarah Cowan in the US who was born 1835 in Co. Derry and who travelled with her mother Sarah to the US arriving on 23 Sept 1852 at Philadelphia on the Creole.  Any information or contacts would be greatly appreciated.  My daughter and I will be visiting Ireland in July.  Would love to meet any living relative.

Thank you, Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn,

    Thank you for your message.

Do you have any information on any family members that did not emigrate and remained in Ireland? Have you tried using Griffith?s Valuation to see if there were still family members in the area between 1848 and 1864? (Griffith?s Valuation was a property valuation survey) You can search it here:

The next sources are the 1901/1911 census records which you can now search online:

Unfortunately, this is as late as public records go. It may be an idea to contact the Derry Genealogy Centre for more assistance. However, a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

We have recently added a new link to the top of our page for people that are visiting in 2013. It takes you to a short web form. We would really appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes to complete it. Thank you!

    Kind regards,
