  • Hi Cath,

I will see if I can give you some direction.  Do you have any certificates, letters or memorial cards, the reason I query this is that they may give youthe  town/townland that they lived in ?

I searched familysearch.org (free site) & I found some information that may be his, but I am unsure as the dates do not exactly match.

The best way forward would be to use www.rootsireland.ie (subscription based) & they should be able to assist you get his death, marraige & birth certificate, hopefully the later 2 will give you the name of his parents.

Best of luck in your search.  Carmel O'Callaghan

  • Hi Cath,

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner as some of my friends were trying to get  copies of certs from Family Search by email & as yet they have not got them.  If there is a Family Search centre near you they may be able to help you, basically if you can identify your relative on their database, you can order the micorfilm & get a copy from it.

Otherwise try Rootsireland.ie or try http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

I have never got anything from these sites as I am able to go to Dublin about once a month & source them direct from the office there, but they limit the number  you can get & you have to  search for yourself through the registers

Best Wishes  from Carmel & do let me know how you got on..
