Am searching for any record of my 4th ggrandfather, John Rule, married to Sarah Rule. They had at least two sons, James, the eldest, and Charles, my 3rd ggrandfather. All I know is that they were from County Tyrone and James and Charles emigrated to America in the 1830's. I have found no records of them at all! I hope to find some connection.
Thank you,
Jan Cannon

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
Rule was a very uncommon name in Ireland during the 19th century. You can see this here:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID=
You can see these results in more detail in Griffith?s Valuation (this is a property valuation survey carried out in Ireland 1848-64)
Unfortunately there are none recorded in Tyrone.
It will be difficult to find more information on the family without knowing a specific parish as most church records are still held locally. It may be an idea to contact the Irish World Heritage Centre in Tyrone for some assistance, however a fee may apply: info@irish-world.com
In the meantime here are some websites you may find useful:

Hello Jan,
I see that I am responding to your inquiryo some 9 years after you posted it, and I hope this finds you well.
John Rule was my 3rd- great grandfather, and Charles Rule my 2nd-great grandfather. I recently found that Charles was born in Armagh, and that the Rule family resided there for an apparent extended period of time. The Rule family may well have resided in Tyrone at some point as well, but to date I have not found anything that would definitively corroborate that.
That said, attached is the Baptismal record for Charles Rule indicating his Baptism and his family's residence in Armogh in 1819. I am also glad to pass along any other info I have on John, Charles, and James as helpful to you.
I hope to hear back from you and establish some further dialogue on Rule Family history.
Best regards,
Josie
