I am searching for the family of John (born: 23 Jan 1764) & Jane Albin ( born: 1767) -  They had 8 children, 3 born in we believe Kilmore, William born 2 March 1798, John born 14 Nov 1799, Amy (Anne) 14 Nov 1801. They immigrated to Pennsylvania by 1803. I have extensive research on them in the United States. I do not know Jane's maiden name at this time. There is a researcher, who was born in ireland that "From the time the Albin family came to Ireland about 1542 they were buried at Kilmore Church. The men of the Albin family often married into the Williamson & Payne family. The Albin family, dateing a long way back,  is on a large marble slab in the Kilmore Church"

I have been unable to find any information on my family in Ireland, any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Brenda,

You don’t say what denomination the family were but I assume Church of Ireland. The baptism records for Kilmore Church of Ireland start in1789. There is a gap between 1796 to 1798 and then they resume in 1799. Marriages start in 1799 and burials in 1824.

So those records might contain the baptisms of John in 1799 and Amy/Anne in 1801.

In addition to the above records vestry minutes exist covering the years 1733 – 79, which might mention your family, if you have plenty of time to go through them.

None of the above records is on-line anywhere so far as I am aware. There is however a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. A personal visit is generally required to go through them.

I had a look at the PRONI on-line catalogue to see if there are any records of Albin + Kilmore but nothing showed up.  It can be very difficult researching in Ireland at this period, as you have probably discovered. Very few records exist. Gravestones are a possible source though your post suggests you may already have explored that.

I looked at the Muster Rolls for Co Armagh c 1630 but there were no Albin households listed in the area at that time.

There are about 6 or 7 Albin households in Kilmore in Griffiths Valuation (1864). If you have a townland for your own family, you might be able to connect to these ones still in Ireland.
