Hello,I am searching for my grandads family.I don t know if he ever had any brothers or sisters or even cousins.I don t even know his parents name or if he was even born in Waterford at all.He lived in Cheekpoint/Faithlegg as he married Anne Doherty, daughter of Andrew.Anne died in 1940 at the age of 32 and is buried in Faithlegg cemetry and i have managed to find her family tree online, however there is nothing of her husband James O Neill anywhere.I have searched birth/marrage records but found nothing. They had about 5 sons together and they used to fish in Cheekpoint in the 1950 s.
Is there any records of the men who used to fish in the area,or is there a school record as i can t find one online.
Any help/advice at all would be great as I can t find any O Neill at all.
Thanks.

Dear Brigid
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. According to irishgenealogy.ie James O'Neill and Anne Doherty married on 22nd Jan 1932. If you wanted to get hold of your grandparents marriage record you could contact the GRO at the link below and request a certificate:
http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/Certificates/
The marriage record should have both parents names and their place of residence and maybe occupations. We don't yet have a volunteer in that part of Waterford and are prevented from providing information about any living family (even if we had it) without their express consent. One you have James' parents' names you can search the above named site or rootsireland.ie for their marriage record and conduct a search for any of James' siblings.
Let me know how you get on
Best wishes

Thank you Clare for your help and advice.
I ordered my grandparents marriage certificate and I got alot of information from it.My granddads father was Micheal O Neill, and my granddad lived in Ballygunner at the time of marriage. It don t have his mothers name but the marriage was withnessed by a Annie O Neill,I believe she was my granddads sister.I have found Micheal,James and Annie ONeill on the 1911 census and myself and my sister (Anna) who have been searching, strongly believe that this is our family.
Thank you for you help,we now have names and a place to search and hopefully get to find their burial place.

Hi,
I would like to update on my search for my grandfather,s siblings and his parents.I have found most information online after I saw his marriage record to my grandmother and from the 1911 census.
My granddad comes from a very large family,he had a least 13 brothers and sisters. Most of them born in half way house,Balinabola. Most of them emigrated to America and a couple of them to England.I am very happy to say that I have found some of the O Neills that are grandchildren to my granddads siblings. It is really good to have that connection.
That you for your help and support. My granddad James is a missing person. He sadly went missing when he was working in England in 1945. This is my next quest,to find out with luck where he died and where he was buried.
How ever I am still yet to find the O Neills grave. Ballygunner parish don t seem to have any record of them. There is my grandfather parents,Michael and Kate, and her twins who died as babies 1911 and a young son who died about 4 years old. They is also a young son belonging to James who died age 2,who are possibably buried all together.I have contacted Crooke parish and they said they don t holds the burial records for Crooke cemetery or Kill ST. Nicholas or Lawrence.
Waterford council just don t seem to be getting back to me and I am really keen on finding where their grave is.
Can you advise my on where to look for burial records,I know most of the years they died and I looked in Crooke cemetery myself but with so many headstone unreadable I couldnt tell if they were buried there.
Any help or advice would be great.
Many thanks

Dear Brigid:
I see that there has been some transcription work done on Crooke graveyard through the IGP pages.
The link there is:
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/waterford/photos/tombstones/waterford-crooke/index.html
You will note the transcriber's name and you might contact her for further information.
In addition, Historic Graves has done some work on graveyards in County Waterford. Their link is:
http://historicgraves.com/graveyards
Alternatively, you might try to contact the parish office where you think that the family may have been associated with. They may have a burial register that will give you the information that you need.
The very best of luck with your research!
Kind regards,
Jane.
