Hi,
i'm hoping someone can help me find the Dennehy/Denahy missing connection.
i am trying to find the parents and siblings of my GG grandfather.
The name seems to have been Denahy in Ireland but changed to Dennehy in Australia.
My GG grandfather was;
John William Denahy/Dennehy b.1838 in Churchtown Parish, Cork (died 14/12/1916 in Melbourne) ; married Deborah Mary Haly/Healy b.7/5/1838 at Church of Assumption,(died 5/12/1921 in Richmond Melbourne). Married 15/12/1858 in Milford, Freemont, Ireland. They immigrated to Australia in 1862.
Their son Cornelius John b.31 oct 1858 in Church of Assumption, Mallow, immigrated to Australia at about 22yrs old. He was left with the Haly/Healy family.
John William's Death certificate has his mother as 'unknown Singleton'
The only Denahy/Singleton I could find is;
Cornelius Denahy/Dennehy b. 1810? In Mallow? Died 1862? In Kanturk? Married Catherine/Catharine Singleton b. 1816?
They married 22/6/1834 in Churchtown Parish, Cork.
I have found a Catherine Denahy living in Ballybahallagh in 1853 Griffiths rego but no mention of Cornelius
Cornelius and Cath Singletons daughter Catherine bap 18 june 1835 in Liscaroll cert says they lived in Ballybahallagh. They also had a child Ellen bap.10 sept 1843 in Milford. I could not find any other children listed for them.
I am hoping someone can help me find the parents/siblings of John William, or find proof that Cornelius and Catherine are his parents.
Could anyone suggest what I should do next as I have exhausted the subscriptions I have I think and have searched all the records at the NLI. Also put posts on various sites without success.
Many thanks
Cherie

Hi Cherie,
Here is the baptism of son Cornelius, baptised 31 October 1858 in Milford co Cork (there is no Church of Assumption in Mallow) parents John Denahy and Deborah Healy.
John Denahy and Deborah Healy or as on the marriage record Haly were married on the 18 December 1858 in Milford co Cork, no parents mentioned but there are two witnesses Maurice and Cornelius Healy

Cherie what makes you think John Dennehy is born in Churchtown? I have checked the Churchtown baptisms but can not find John William Dennehy. The closest match I can find is a John Dennehy baptised 1 March 1838 in Newmarket co Cork, parents Patrick Dennehy and Margaret Kenely

Hi,
That's a very good question. My sister Anne, (recently deceased) start this journey for my father.
As my father is now quite ill and I was hoping to get it finished for him.
In my sister's records she has written
'John William Dennehy born 1838 Cork, Ireland, Churchtown parish' but there is no supporting documentation for this.
She also has that 'he came to work on Maurice Haly's farm (Deborah's father)' prior to their marraige.
John's death certificate has his mother as 'unknown singleton'
This is why i have been trying to get a connection between john and dennehy/singleton line. i can only find one marraige record with th combination of names. but unfortunately i can only find them having 2 femle children and not a john.
Hoping you can help in my search.
I was hoping someone in ireland would read my posts and say 'I am related and know the family line'. I think I was expecting way too much. but its good to dream.
regards
