    Welcome back!

Do you have new information that points to Midleton parish?

I looked at Roots Ireland from 1825-1845 in Co. Cork and found this record in the Newmarket RC church.

  • Hello again Roger, sorry for the delay in replying to your last posting, i only tried Middleton because someone suggested Ballinacurra sounded similar to cencus transcript of Balinacuagh, We think John H. was born 1844, & married Isabella in Liverpool .. .Cannot be sure about d.o.birth,but both were given as minors on the marriage certificate dated 1st November 1863. Still clutching at straws, but thankyou once again for your efforts. Vincent H.

  • Hello Vincent

It's now 2018 and I only just saw your message from 2015 so really hope you see this.  John Holland and Isabella(Connor) are my great great grandfather and mother.  I have been looking for more information about the Hollands for many years now.  I have the marriage certificate mentioning Denis Holland as the father of the groom - unfotunately I couldn't make out which Bally...... it was from the old fashioned handwriting.  Neither could I make out what his job was. So is the Bally-illegible somewhere in Co. Cork?

John Holland was a brass founder, living in Liverpool - in the notorious courts so they were not well off.  Isabella came from the Connor family of West Derby, Liverpool and her father was a painter and decorator - born in Liverpool.  On a census I have Isabella's grandmother Martha Connor living there - she was the first one born in Ireland - in the 1700's. No town given.

John Holland disappeared off the census after 1871.  I couldn't find any record of a death  - In the 1881 census Isabella was a widow at 35 working as a cigar maker supporting the kids and her elderly parents.  She died perhaps in her 40's and the family were split up by the 1891 census, I think, and sent to various relatives. I wondered if Denis's wife had been called Ellen because I can find a widowed Ellen Holland in the censuses.

My great grandmother Rosalind/Rose ended up in Manchester.  If you see this message Vincent please let me know - any family news is very welcome.  lindsayinfo@gmail.com  Best wishes Lindsay
