welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and sorry for the delay in replying but there are not volunteers in every parish just yet.

I searched this site http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp and rather than insert a name I selected Cavan and Parish Ballymachugh which brought back 279 people, there was not townland listed a Grove but one as Hamp# Grove, there some Donohoe there in Ballymachugh in 1824 in different townlands, I also searched Tate which is a more unusual name and found some including Robert Tate in different townlands in Cavan but quite a distance away for the time, the did not meet going to church or School.

In 1856 there was a valuation done called Griffiths Valuation of land and see http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ There are 10 Tate hits but not necessarily 10 different Tates as the same person may be a landlord and tenant. 

If they were Catholics the registers were put on line but without definite dates they are a terrible read http://registers.nli.ie/ Ballymachugh starts in 1837. The Church of Ireland have commenced putting there records on line but have not yet completed the task.

I searched the online phonebookfor Tate or Tait and got a number of hits but none in Cavan, nearest two in Monaghan and interestingly 3 near where I live in Louth but this is a well populated area.

If you are trying to contact some one my only suggestion is a letter to the local paper the Anglo Celt.

Records beyod the church records are virtually non existant.

Thanks so much Pat,   This part of the family is very difficult to trace    The Tates came over in 1851 on the Lady Franklin, I know this for sure   It was just the mother Mary Tate nee Donohoe  aged 45   Sons James 18, John 16, Dennis 14 (my GGG Grandfather) Daughters Margaret 20. Phoebe came later, she was 14 at the time they emigrated.   Nor sure why she stayed back   I know Cavan was hit hard by famine  I believe the population was down 30% after the tragedy    Dennis became US Citizen in 1865 on October 25     Interesting that my mothers grandmother was Donahue also?   I have afew names that appear twice in my family  ( another was McNamara)  my grandmothers parents were also both Kiernan, they were from Granard.   It would be cool to find them, they are my most ancient US immigrants   Most of my family left after famine up til 1890's   I have every GG Grandparent from Eire but it is very difficult to get some info on some of them??  My GG Grandmother was Murphy, Doyle, O'Keefe, Hogan and other common names also they are either Mary or Patrick whick makes thetask even more insane.
