Ancestors of George Joseph Plunkett

I did a 10 year search on Roots Ireland for the baptismal record for George but did not find a record. What was their religious denomination? The RC church is Rathdrum which is on Roots. Rathdrum C of I records are also on Roots. I checked the 1854 Griffiths Valuation for Ballinacor parish and no Plunketts were listed.

Thank you for replying. 

As far as I'm aware, this part of my family were Catholic as that was what the family were brought up as and my great grandparents were married 'using the rites of the church of Rome'. When my great grandfather remarried 10 years later, this was also in a Catholic Church. I did find a James Plunkett in griffiths for the parish of rathnew, but no idea if this James is my ancestor.

I have searched through the birth and marriage records since they were made available in the middle of the year but not knowing where to look, parish etc has made this harder.

A large part of my ancestry is Irish, from various parts of Ireland, limerick, Clare, Derry, Wicklow, unknown (possibly Tipperary) and they all remain quite elusive :)

I saw the Rathnew Griffiths record. Rathnew parish is four parishes to the northeast of Ballinacor so I was hesitant to believe it was the same James. Here is the link to the Rathdrum register which is the RC parish for Ballinacor civil parish.

Thanks Roger for your further comments and direction. I'll look through the registers.

As I said, all my Irish ancestors have proved elusive and even my great grandmother Honora Clancy (George's first wife) has proved difficult. A distant relative holds the Clancy family bible which has more information, but I have never been able to find her, her siblings or their parents in the parish registers despite having supposedly more accurate information.

I have started using DNA research to hopefully find more information back in Ireland. I hope to get my uncle to test and he will give me the direct male line back through the Plunketts. So that may be more enlightening :)
