Hello, I believe my Coll ancestors may be from Moore in Roscommon. Surnames are Coll, Cole or Coleman. Thady Coll was b. around 1768 and with Honora Horogho may have had children Patrick b. 1807, Ann and Celia - twins b. 1810 and Michael who later became Michael Coleman. Uncerain about where Thady or Honoria may have been born/baptozed but believe they lived in or near Morre. Thanks for any help you can provide. Glenda

  • Hello again Glenda!

I responded to your prior message when you posted in Elphin parish. RC records for Moore parish do not begin until 1876 so you won't find records for your ancestors born in the early 1800s.

  • Hi, if you click on historicgraves.com.  Select the family name Coleman, scroll down until you see Moore South Graveyard you will find your family.   Three headstones there with dates and names on inscriptions and also some notes on the family.  Hope this helps.   In case you have trouble doing it, I will try in another message to send you the links to them.   Kind regards from Ballinasloe, Co Galway.  Mary Dolan

  • To Roger.   There are now excellent records for the Parish of Moore through the recording of headstones in Clonburren, Moore South Old graveyard and now Kilbegly.  kilbegly is currently being put up on line but will be complete in the next few weeks.  All three are fully documented, photographed and many of the older harder to read ones have been photographed by photogrammetry which is a 3D like image.  Fantastic work by the Moore History Group.  Mary Dolan

  • My Great, Great, Great Grandmother was Judy Colman born 1772, died 1824. She married Terry Clogher and they lived in the townland of Camcloon, Parish of Moore. Her direct descendents still there. She is buried in Moore South cemetary.   I believe she is probably a sister of your Thady Coll b.1768.   Griffiths Valuation shows Colemans and Clogher living in adjacent dwellings in Camcloon in 1850's.   Somebody has added a note to the in historicgraveyards.com site that the Coleman headstones are connected to the townland of Doohan in Drum Parish.

Please acknowledge if you read this.  I would like to exchange more information.
