Hello,
My gggrandparents were Patrick Finegan & Catherine Brabazon.
- Patrick Finegan baptised 15th March 1826 & son of Owen Finegan and Cathryne Brien.
(source: Lobinstown Roman Catholic Parish Register).
- Patrick married Catherine Brabazon on the 22 July 1865 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Newtown (District of Drumconrath). Patrick was living in Hopkinstown. Catherine was at the time aged 20, living in Corballis. Her parents were James Brabazon and Margaret Conlon(s).
- On James and Margaret Brabazon's marriage cert. it is written that they got married on 28th October 1835. James Bapston to Margaret Conlons. Witnesses: Thomas Brapston and Patt Treanor.
I have been stuck at a dead end on both the Finnegan & Brabazon side for several years.
I am seeking for any information concerning:
1/ Owen Finegan & Cathryne (O') Brien (date of birth, marriage, death, name of parents).
2/ James Brabazon & Margaret Conlon (date of birth, death, name of parents).
I know that James & Margaret Brabazon had 5 children: Mary baptised 4th Aug 1836, Catherine baptised 1st Jan 1839, Anne baptised 23 June 1842, John bapt 23 Jan 1845 and Edward bapt 17th Feb 1846.
The spelling of their name varies: Brapston, Brabston or Brabazon.
In my family it was/is said that Catherine Brabazon was protestant however she got married in a Catholic church.
I would be extremely grateful for any information concerning Owen Finegan & Cathryne (O') Brien / James Brabazon & Margaret Conlon.
Best regards,
Stephanie Finnegan

Stephanie:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I think you are going to be limited in how far you can go back because the Lobinstown RC records start in 1823.

I did look up the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killary civil parish and there were four Finnegan record including an Owen. Not sure if this is your ancestor or possibly another connection.

I also looked at Corballis townland and found it was in Siddan civil parish. Here is the 1854 Griffiths for Siddan parish and you will see a James Brabston in Corballis. Again, this could be your ancestor or another relative. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/meath/siddan.htm

Dear Roger,
Thank you for your message.
As for Griffith's Valuation, Owen Finegan is indeed my ancestor.
The James Brapston in Corballis is also my ancestor. I'm just trying to figure out who his parents were.
I know that he got married on 28th Oct 1835 to Margaret Conlons. Wit: Thomas Brapston & Patt Treanor. This is in the Lobinstown RC records.
When his daughter Catherine got married she was living in Corballis. I have a copy of her marriage cert.
I also checked the Flax growers 1796 & found Brabazons for Louth & Roscommon but no Brapston / Brabason.
I'll look carefully at the records you emailed me.
Once again thank you very much,
Stephanie Finnegan
