USAHello I am trying to find out any infromation about my Great Grandmother Ellen Field, and her ancestry and where she came from. She was born according to the census in Blarney 1901/1911 about 1835, she married John O'Callaghan (RC) in
Blarney on 21st Feb,1871, witnesses,John and Phillip Field. In the register is written Killowen I think, maybe that is where she was from and would love to find out her parents name. I have since found out that she may have been born in Inniscarra. She went on to have I think 3 children,Julia, born in Dripsey, then Daniel and John born in Blarney. Also I dont know where John O'Callaghan her husband comes from, born around 1836.I realise O'Callaghan is a very common name in the area, any help greatly appreciated.I now live abroad, so only have online access. If I have the correct Ellen Field from Inniscarra, then she had a brother Charles who emergrated to
USA, and had their surnames changed to Fields. Thank You.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The village of Blarney is in the civil parish of Garrycloyne and there is also a townland in that parish called Killowen. The parish of Killowen is way to the west of Blarney and I don't think that parish is involved.
I checked on Roots Ireland because they usually have civil marriage records for Co. Cork but they did not have the Field/Callaghan marriage. I did find the index record for the marriage on another site which is below but you would have to send away to the GRO to get a copy of the record which would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. I can provide instructions. The 1852 Griffiths for Garrycloyne does not show any Field records and there are three Callaghan records but none in Killowen. See below. I also checked on Roots for Ellen Field baptismal records. There was an 1844 record in Inniscarra parish and a 1849 record in Aghada parish. The Inniscarra is more likely since that RC parish was just to the west of Blarney. The transcription of that record is below. The civil marriage record is key to knowing her father's name.
Let me know if you have questions.

Hello Roger, Thank you for responding. Sorry I posted to three parishes, this is my first attempt and I am not sure how to use the site. I think you might be right, it looks as though Ellen Field might have been born in Inniscarra in 1844.
As you suggest I would like to apply to the GRO for more detail of the marriage in 1871, it might show her father's name etc.
What do I ask for on the GRO's site? I appreciate your help?
Thank you

Shirley:
Go to this site https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx print out the marriage form and fill it out to the best of your ability. Include the info from the index record. Make sure you only ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. You have to mail the request to GRO (address is provided when you print the form). You can ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back. I provide a credit card number and have not had any issues.

Shirley:
Ellen was from Killowen which is another townland in Garrycloyne civil parish near Blarney. The townland for John was Lackane according to the writing but there is no townland in Cork with that exact spelling. There are some possibilities but none in the immediate Blarney area.

Hi Shirley G, I just joined up irelandxo and was reading your post about Blarney and your great grandparents. With the information you have it looks like we both have the same great grandparents. John O"Callaghan or John Callaghan (sometimes the O would be left in or out of the surname) from Lachane Blarney married Ellen Field from Killowen Blarney in Blarney church on 21 February 1871. John"s father was Daniel Callaghan and Ellen"s father was John Field.. They had 3 children Julia,Daniel and John. Julia married Denis Donovan in 1893 and had 5 children. Daniel married Kate Horgan in 1916 and had no children. John married Bridget Horgan in 1909 and had 4 children. John was my mothers father (my grandfather). They all lived and worked in Blarney village. Let me know if this information is any use to you.
Regards Noel O"Connor.
