Looking for information on the Nagle-Noonans who lived in Galbally, Angleboro in the 1860. James Nagle and Margaret Noonan had children: Patrick, Joseph, Margaret, Elizabeth, Ellen, James, Bridget, Catherine.  I know that some of them emigrated to the US. Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Laura

  • Hi Laura
The births for James Nagle & Margaret Noonan took place in the townland of Inchacomb which is in the electoral area of Anglesborough.  The very first one appears to have been in Griston which is nearby close to Ballylanders.
According to the Land Revision Book for Anglesborough, in 1880 James sub leased a house previously held by John O'Brien from John Quane.  The lot number was 12c but it was crossed out in 1922 with the word "ruins" wrtten beside it, but as we have the lot number it should be possible to figure out the exact place it stood if you are interested.
The 1901 Census shows that James was a blacksmith born in County Cork. In 1901 he gives his age as 65 but in 1911 he gives his age as 77.    This would give him a DOB around 1834-36.  I can see 6 possible matches with 1 in nearby Kildorrery and two of them in Doneraile.

    1901 Census: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001005432/
    1911 Census: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002769319/

I haven't been able to find the marriage which might yield some further information about where they came from but unfortunately there were 51 lots owned by Noonan in the two parishes of Galbally and Kilbehenny so it looks highly probable that Margaret originated from there.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for getting back to me and for the information about the Land Revision Book-Am I correct that the home that was leased from John Quane is the same as the one in the 1911 census? Do you happen to know how I could get birth certificates or baptismal records for James and Margaret? What about death records for them....and where would they have gone to church....I am also interested in the children they had.....I am sorry to flood you with questions...I also wonder if there are any Nagle's still in the area....My grandmother was Ellen Nagle-she came to America in 1899 to live with her sister Elizabeth

    Laura
