I am trying to locate information on my great grandmother Mary McCarthy who was born Dec 1825 in Abbeyfeale. According to her diary she emigrated to Canada in the late 1840's where she married my great grandfather. Her death certificate lists her father as John McCarthy but no mother's name was listed. Appreciate any help or suggestions as I've been trying to break through this brick wall for about 15 years.

I assume your McCarthys were RC. The parish records for Abbeyfeale for baptisms start in 1829. Here is a link to the parish register. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0855
I checked the Tithe listings for Abbeyfeale and there were no John Mccarthys listed. The 1850 griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Abbeyfeale parish showed three John McCarthy records. Not sure if any of these records are for the father of Mary.
You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will match someone who has more info on your McCarthy line.

I am not sure if she was Catholic or not. She married my great grandfather in the Anglican church where all of his family had attended for years.
