I am researching the following people who emigrated to NZ in 1859 aboard the ship 'Golconda'... John Fitzgerald (1839 - 1874), Elizabeth Rourke (1841 - 1933), and Garrett Barry (abt 1840 - 1890).
John and Elizabeth married in NZ in 1862. All three people - John, Elizabeth and Garrett - then lived in the small town of Blenheim, Marlborough, NZ. Immigration records show that Garrett Barry and Elizabeth Rourke came from the same place in Ireland - there were 2 variations of spellings but seem to be the same place ... Gurrane Rurrough, Killallo Parish near Tralee/ Guran Rowrough, Kiltalo near Tralee (I would love the correct spelling if someone could help here).
John (and his cousin Dennis Fitzgerald who was on board also) came from Arabella, Tralee with their address being given as c/o Francis Peet, esq. Maybe John and Dennis worked for Francis Peet on his estate? John and Dennis had sureties provided by a John Fitzgerald and John Leahy.
Garrett had sureties provided by a Michael and Patrick O'Connor;
Elizabeth had sureties provided by Patrick O'Connor and Mary Rourke. Looking at other people on this immigration list who came from the same parish as Garrett and Elizabeth, there also seemed to be a John O'Connor providing sureties. Does anyone know who Michael, Patrick and John O'Connor were?
John and Elizabeth then either created or carried on a Fitzgerald tradition - the eldest son of the eldest son is always called John - therefore it is possible that John's father was also called John. The next 6 generations of NZ Fitzgeralds have the eldest son of the eldest son having John as either a first or middle name. As far as his mother's name goes, looking at the daughters' names she may have been either Ellen, Mary or Johanna.
If anyone has any information regarding any of these families especially concerning the relationship between the Barrys and the Rourkes I would be keen to hear from you. I feel that there is possibly a marriage connection between Garrett and Elizabeth - maybe cousins? They were very close.
Cheers.

Kiwigirl:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The civil parish could be Kiltallagh which is south of Tralee. There is also a Garrane townland in Tralee civil parish. www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records and the Tralee records go back to 1772.
I will also alert our parish liaison for Tralee about your message.

Thanks so much Roger. Since posting the above information I have come across a family tree on ancestry.com for Garret Barry's family. His mother Ellen was a Connor/O'Connor so possibly the O'Connor men were uncles of Garret.

Hi Kiwigirl, The Peets owned Arabella House and were still living there in 1901 and in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kerry/Arabela/Arabela/1429128/
about the house http://www.discoverireland.ie/Arts-Culture-Heritage/arabella-house/73854

They worshipped in the Church of Ireland Parish of Ballymacelligott and here are their returns from the Church records online
Here is the list of landholders in 'Arabela' c1850 http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&PlaceID=609482&county=Kerry&barony=Trughanacmy&parish=Ballymacelligott&townland=%3Cb%3EArabela%3C/b%3E

Can't help with the spellings since they weren't standardised til 1920 and even later in some parts!
Here is a map of the Civil Parishes (taxation districts) which are not the same neccessarily as the Church Parishes
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlker/civparlist.html
Kiltallagh is a Civil Parish but there is also a townland by the same name AND a Roman Catholic Parish of Keel & Kiltallagh. The townland name is more problematic, I can see at least 10 different possibilities. I have seen Gurrane also transcribed as Gullane. I'm hoping that someone who knows that area better will come into the discussion here.

How wonderful. Thank you so much. Another version of spelling also listed with the above people is Gurrane Rourah...no doubt phonetically recorded.

Martine - Following on from your helpful link regarding landholders it would appear the spelling I am looking for would be Gurraunreeragh. Cheers.

I have had great success with connecting the Rourkes to the O'Connors and the Barrys. Mary O'Connor married Charles Rourke and produced Elizabeth Rourke. Mary's sister Ellen O'Connor married John Barry and produced Garrett Barry. The O'Connor brothers sponsored both Elizabeth and Garrett so my hunch was correct ... Elizabeth and Garrett were cousins. The next part of the journey will be under a new header - Fitzgeralds of Gortagullane, Ballymacelligott

Fitzgeralds of Gortagullane, Ballymacelligott, Co. Kerry
I have located two ancestors - John and Dennis Fitzgerald - who each leased a house and garden from a Mary Groves of Gortagullane which is adjacent to the Arabella Estate. John and Dennis had sons also called John and Dennis who gave Arabella as their address when applying to emigrate to New Zealand in 1859. Does anyone have any idea how I can find out if the Fitzgeralds worked for the estate?

Hi again
It may be difficult to find out if they worked on the Estate as many of these records do not exist (for those who were employed) or if they do they are not available online to a great extent. You could have a look at the following link as it will list the archives and manuscripts available for any subject in the holdings of the National Library of Ireland in Dublin:

There is information and photos of Blenheim on website. Note: Barry was also spelt Bary. The following link is to the photograp collection of Renwick Museum near Blenheim, search for Barry and Bary.
