Philip Malone & Anne McMahon circa 1833

Do you know when Philip and Anne were married? Were they RC? I did not find any records on Roots Ireland.

Yes married RC. First of 5 boys born 1832 so figured married 1830 or 31?

Boys names are Joseph (james) ,Edward ,Patrick, Philip and Barney.

Now I am not sure Castletown was their home but deffinatly RC, and the north. This is the only place I have found a Philip Malone and McMahon's together and close on the list so assuming until proven this is the family area.

Question for those with ideas on here with perhaps a new idea on missing family. The Malone's as above are elusive so far to me. I did run accross a listing for a Philip Malone in the tithe applotment books in 1833 in the Gary Wahons Division of Castletown Louth. Listed arond him were 3 families of McMahon's which is the maiden name of Philips wife. Talking to Elwyn who frequently helps me out  he suggested i might be on to something as back then it was common to be living close te the family of your bride circa 1830. They are listed no other place i have found yet and are on the cencus of 1851 in Canada.

Anyone have any luck with a new place to look for this family?

Roger asked me to see if I could assist and there is not a lot to offer. I think Castletown is in the parish of Faughart and records are only starting in 1851, Dundalk start earlier I assume you are familiar  with this site here http://www.nli.ie/

I also use this site for Louth and it lists grave inscriptions and other lists of names and sometimes addresses. There is an Neal Malon (spelling as is) in a Corn Census of 1740 at Gartin, Castletown but you have to take a leap of faith. See http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/index.html there are a lot of Malone and McMahon hits and some interesting reports but the list of graves for Faughart also gives a link which appears to be broken or the Faughart site is gone. 

I searched the Dundalk area phone book and got 27 Malone hits but none in Castletown but it appears the area has become more urban in recent times so land probably changed hands. Most were in Riverstown which is east of Dundalk whereas Castletown is west.

Ok great over the next week or so i will pour over your links. Thank you. Assuming nothing pops up and you were searching for them what would you do next?

I will be doing a family DNA test  to look for cousins on all my sides and perhap one will pop up for them but im not holding my breath.

the only other suggestion I have is to write to the local newspapers, Dundalk actually has two weekly papers, see http://www.dundalkdemocrat.ie/ and http://www.independent.ie/regionals/argus/ see on the Dundalk Argus site a story about Joe Biden whose ancestor came from the other side of Dundalk.

There is also a local radio station but has a much bigger catchment area so may not be so interested.

Hopefully some one has also done the DNA thing but not sure it is done a lot here yet. I occassionally meeet a Malone person locally and will see if he has any interest but unlikely he would know as it is not an uncommon name here.
