Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has information on my ancestor John Clancy born in October 1811 in Fermoy Glanworth County Cork. His father was Maurice Clancy and a shoemaker. He married Catherine Heane.
John Clancy married Mary Casey, daughter of gardener John Casey from West Fermoy. Her mother was Catherine Ryan. They married in Fermoy Glanworth on 29 December 1836 and had son Maurice on 8 January 1838.
In 1839 they left Cork on the Calcutta for Australia where they settled and had 9 children , one being my great grandfather.
I would be interested in any information on any of the family that may have remained in Ireland.
Thank you , Leonie

Hello again!
The RC records for Fermoy and Glanworth parishes start later than 1811 so no baptismal record is available for John unless he was baptized in a different parish. I looked at the 1852 Griffith Valuation head of household listing and there was a Maurice Clancy listed in Fermoy tonw. Possibly this is the father of John but he would have been 60+ in age. There were other Clancys also but you can't make any direct connections. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/fermoy.htm
Have you considered autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will match someone with Clancy connections.

Hi Roger,
Just to let you know, I have done an autosomal DNA testing as has 3 cousins so we are hoping to find some relatives in Ireland. I am still trying to work it out. I am returning to Fermoy in June of this year and hope to discover some more information.
Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I assume you tested with either Family Tree DNA or Ancestry DNA. There is a volunteer run site called Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com Gedmatch allows you to upload your raw DNA and see if you match someone who tested with another DNA company (and also uploaded their data to Gedmatch). The Irish are slowly getting into DNA testing. More than likely you will match people in other countries who are descendants of Clancy/Casey/Heane/Ryan siblings who also emigrated.
