My Grandmother Elizabeth (Lil) Geraldine Shanks was born in Dublin 10 Aug 1888. Father Hugh Shanks, mother Harriette Ann (Mahony) Shanks. Father died Sept, 1890, Mother died Mar. 1891. Both I believe in Dublin. Can not fnd any death notices for either. Plans were make for Harriette and her six children to sail to Australia but she passed away four days before departure.
My grandmother was put in an all girls school, but I can not find any information about what happened to her five older brothers. I do know she did have contact with them as adults and came to the U.S.A. looking for one of her bothers and found him in New Milford, CT. She met and married my grandfather there and they started their own family.
The brother she found in CT does have family there still but I want information on the years between their mothers death and 1916.

Kathy,
This might be Lillie Shanks in an orphanage in the 1901 census:

And again, working as a servant, in 1911:

I noted the parents marriage in Dublin South district 1875 Volume 7, page 606. So the children were presumably born between then and 1890.

Elwyn,
Thanks you for the information. I do have a lot of that. My grandmothers brothers were born between 1875-1885. I 'm really trying to find information on their mothers death. Thank you again.

Harriette’s death is registered in Dublin North Jan – Mar 1891 Vol 2, page 459, aged 34. Given the circumstances, I doubt there were any obituaries. Sometimes a death notice in the paper but not always, especially if there was no-one to pay for it. Try Glasnevin for a burial record.
