Arthur Hart and Catherine Reel

Have you tried to get birth certificates for the children? (They will contain the family address). Statutory birth registration began in 1864, so the births were apprently all after that. A birth certificate normally contains much more information than a baptism.

Where do I find birth certificates for this area? If their children were registered in Dundalk, Louth, would that have been where their birth certificates would be located? Much Thanks!

Can you provide names and years for a couple children and we can look up the civil birth index record. With the index record, you can write to the General Register Office and get a copy and it should show  the townland where they lived. Each copy costs around 4 euros.

I have there baptism datesfrom upper creggan, which should be close to when their birthdates were. The parents were once again Arthur Hart and Catherine Reel. Here they are in birth order (Note: I'm transcribing so if I'm unsure of any names I put a question mark):

1) Thomas Hart, June 10th 1862. Godparents = John Conlon (?) and Margaret Hart(?)

2) Mary Hart, May 26th 1864. Godparents = William Kelly and Bridget Gologly (?) or Murphy

3) James Hart, May 9th 1867. Godparents = James Gologly (?) and Elizabeth  (Can't read last name)

4) Elizabeth Hart, Feb. 20th 1870. Godparents = Micheal Kelly and Mary Kelly.

5) Anne Hart, Sept. 15th 1872. Godparents = William Kelly and Bridget Gologly(?)

6) Margaret Hart, Aug. 21th 1874. Godparents = William Patty or Kelly and Mary Hart

7) Bridget Hart, Jan. 20th 1877. Godparents = Thomas Hollywood and Rose McShane (?)

I believe that Arthur Hart and Catherine Reel were married in upper creggan approx. 1861.

Also, I know that Mary Hart and Margaret Hart came to the U.S.A. and lived in Vermilion, Illinois. I also think that Arthur Hart and James Hart came to live there as well, around 1880.

I found the civil birth index records for the youngest two girls. Roots Ireland does not now have transcriptions of civil records (they have records for about 15 counties nowith more to be added). You will have to write to the General Register Office to get a copy of one of these two records. A copy costs four euros. If you want instructions let me know.

I am also researching the Hart family from Upper Creggan and your Arthur Hart maybe a relative to the ancesors I'm looking for! Do you know Arthur's date of birth and his parents names? Regarding his marriage I have his spouces surname recorded as Freel and married in Upper Creggan 13 Jume 1861!

That's so cool! I'm not sure who
Arthur's parents are just yet, but I do know that Arthur married Catherine on that same date.
I'm pretty sure her name was mistakenly written down as freel (on marriage record on one child's baptism record) because it was written as Reel on all children's birth civil records, all but one baptism records, and on all of the children's death records I've found. Also her mother is listed as Mary Reel on Elizabeth's civil record.

As for Arthur all I know is that, according to the children's civil records:
He lived in lurgancullenboy in creggan from 1864-1867 (he listed lurgan in creggan from 1870-1877, which I think is short for lurgancullenboy).
He listed his profession as a laborer/farmer.
All children's births were registered in the district of barronstown in the union of dundalk in the counties of louth / armagh.

I also am pretty sure he immigrated after his wife passed away with at the very least his son James to Catlin, Vermilion, Illinois. I think this because
1) James passed away in Vermillion in 1898 after marrying Katherine Ludy and being a store clerk there. (Death record)
2) Also in the 1880 census there is an Arthur Hart who is widowed, farmer (40 yrs old) and his son James Hart (11 yrs old).
They were living with an Elizabeth Hart Forein or Foren (who he stated was his sister and she is either 44 or 49) and her husband John Forein.

Our family folklore talks about Catherine Reel died in childbirth, but don't know for sure. The biggest thing I've noticed in the hart line is that they like to change their age dramatically. Arthur's daughter mary was 10yrs. younger in one census and 20yrs. older in the next.

How do you think we are related? I have a ton of records on possible relatives, so I might have something on who your looking for. (:

Thanks for getting back and apologies for the lateness of my responce!

I have nothing to substantiate that your Arthur Hart is related to my Hart family other than the fact he is from Upper Creggan and his name is Arthur! As there were only a few Hart families in Upper Creggan from late 18trh/early 19th centuries and my guess is they were all related! And if you look at the Tithe Applotment and the Griffiths Valuation! The Hart families are mostly centred around Carnally! 

Personally I am looking for more information on a James Hart b 1840ish, Arthur 1835 and Patrick Hart b 1833 all came to Liverpool UK around 1860! In fact Patrick was definately there by 1856! There father was Patrick Hart and their mother I believe was Mary Lary . I have found Arthur's baptism in Upper Creggan but nothing for James or Patrick as yet. 

Further to this I am part of a small group who are researching the Ydna ancestry of our Hart families! Which to date is showing Hart links to Lough, Armagh and Meath. We have found we all have a common ancestor around the 1600's/1700's and that we also have links to south west Scotland probably around the 5th century AD! We are hoping with further analysis that we can close the gap of knowledge to the time period that has records i.e. 18th/19th century! Which then will give us an understanding of our families earlier origins and a greater knowledge of our ancestors during the period were records exist!
