Corboy Donovan family Tree
I am currently in Ireland until the end of May '16. I would greatly appreciate linking with a local historian in the Clonalkity area to learn of the context/culture of my great grandfather Daniel Donovan who emigrated to Australia in 1858.  I also intend to go to the historical society.  Some details.

Daniel Donovan born Dec 1835, Clonalkity, Co Cork. Father John Donovan, Mother Bridget Mary Kuhane (?? something more like Bohane).  I have viewed some hints in teh griffith Valuation and RC Parish records but can't identify definitely if they match my ancestor.  Daniel emigrted to Australi 1858 on the Clipper Rasmania.  In 1865 Daniel married Margaret Mary McGuire (1844 - 1947) in Warnambool, Vic, Australia.  They had 13 children: Catherine Bridget (1866-1944), Mary Ann (1868-1953), Ellen (Sr Dorothy) (1869-1944), John Francis (1869-1931), Michael James (1870-1928), Ann (1872-1938), Elizabeth (1873-    ), James Michael (1875-1931), Timothy (1877-1918), Margaret (1878-1961), Bridget Teresa (1881-1962), Teresa Josephine (1883-1936) Teresa was my grandmother , Patrick Fr. (1886-1957.  We know Daniel was the eldest of two brothers and one sister:  Timothy (1833-1910), Mary (1842-1918) and Michael.

  • With the assistance of a local historian I discovered that my great great grandmother Bridget Mary Kuhane named above should read Mary Bridget Keohane.  This change made it possible to access the baptism records of the four children who emigrated to Australia - Timothy, Daniel, Michael and Mary plus identify James, Denis and Honora. Their baptism records provided the following data: Residential Place: Gurranagoleen; Baptism date; ... ... ...; Catholic Church in Roscarbery, Cork, Ireland; Catholic Diocese of Cork and Ross; Father: John Donovan; Mother: Mary Keohane.
According to the extract of the Griffith Valuation John Donovan leased 2 properties in Gurranagoleen. Townland: Gurranagoleen, Parish of Kilkerranmore; Barony of Ibane and Baroyroe.  It falls in the Clonakilty Union.  Clonakilty is the nearest town to Gurranagoleen approximately 3 - 4 kms.
