I am searching for the family of Michael Kiernan. He left Co. Longford Ireland in 1836 for the USA. He was born c. 1814-1817. His death in 1877 at age 63 yrs old in New York City is recorded in the local newspaper as stating he came from the parish of Abbeylara. He married Bridget Lynch born in Ireland c. 1832 not sure if this was in Ireland or New York. All of their 7 children were born in NY. I would like to try to locate the town land in Abbeylara that he came from. I do not know who his parents were. Their second son's middle name was Henry which I believe was named after Bridget's father, Henry Lynch.
Any assistance or advice would be appreciated. Any local historians to connect would be great since I plan to visit the area this May 19th to 21st, 2016.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The records for the RC church in Abbeylara do not begin until 1854. I did loook for Michael Kiernan baptismal records around the time you mentioned in all of Longford and did not find a record.
The civil parish of Abbeylara is split into four parts: two to the northeast of Granard parish and the other two parts are to the east and southeast of Granard parish. Not sure which area your Kiernans are from. The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Abbeylara civil parish shows a number of Keirnan records and two Kiernan records. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/longford/abbeylara.htm
I also looked at the 1833 Tithe Applotment listing for the parish and there were 13 records. I did not check out Keirnan.

We do not have a parish liaison in Abbeylara parish or any of the nearby parishes.
Let me know if you have questions and have a great trip.
