Hello,
I am researching Percy J. CREEDE of Ballynaclogh. Parents were Patrick/Patt CREEDE & Ellen Molloy of Ballynaclogh & Ballyhurst who had 12 children.
I have found the marriage and all 12 baptisms in the Catholic Parish Registers; however, there is an interesting twist, and I hope someone can help me figure it out. I believe that Percy was bap. 27 May 1861, (Civil Parish Ballynaclogh, RC Parish Pallasgreen), but I also believe there is an error in the Register, and to prove that I need to find something else that confirms Percy's birth or baptism.
Would anyone here be able to help me? If so, I will send more specific details of this situaion.
Thank you,
Kerry Anderson

Welcome back!
Civil registration of births started in 1864 so the only available info would be the register. I've looked at the entry and Percy Joseph William appears to be the son of Heffernan Considine and Mary McMahon. The townland is Derk which is in Grean civil parish real close to Ballynaclogh parish. The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Grean civil parish shows Heffernan Considine Esq. in Derk townland http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/grean.htm
How can we assist?

Hello Roger,
Thank you for this response.
Here are the details of my puzzlement. Two entries below the Considine entry, (p.158) on 27 May 1861, you will see a Mary Creed of Patt Creed & Ellen Molley [Molloy] of Ballynaclogh. This name is doubtful, though possible, for the Creed family which I have been researching for awhile.
My great grandfather was Percy J. Creede, and I can confirm that his parents were Patt & Ellen of Ballnaclogh & Ballyhurst. The Parish Registers show the parents' marriage and all the other siblings except Percy, who was the middle child of the 12 siblings. As far as I know, this family did not move out of the area, so where is Percy? My challenge is to find evidence of what I know is true. He emigrated to the U.S. (probably in the early 1880s) and settled in San Francisco, and I have a lot of evidence for him here in the States.
My theory is that the person recording the baptisms made an error in showing Percy Joseph William as the child of the Considines. I don't know how common a name Percy is, but I suspect not too common. I tried to find a Percy Considine who would match that d.o.b. in other records but no luck there. I also looked for a Mary Considine who would have fit that d.o.b. but no luck there either.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Kerry

Kerry:
I think you are right. Likely the priest had notes from a lot of baptisms he did in May and Maybe into June. He sat down with his notes and adding the baptisms to the registers and in the process he transposed Percy and Mary. There is no way to prove it. Let me contacy someone who is local to Co. Limerick and see if he agrees withe the "theory".

Kerry:
My Limerick contact (Jim Vaughan) found information which shows that Heffernan Considine had a son Percy born in May 1861. Hopefully, you can open the link below. Even before Jim found the link below, he was skeptical that the priest made two mistakes: one for the Creed family child and the other for the Considine child. So likely Mary was the child of Patrick Creed and Ellen Molloy. Not sure where the record is for you great-grandfather. Let me know what questions you have.

Hi again,
found this since last email - it shows a Percy Considine born 19th May 1861.
