Anyone out there related to the Wallaces of Limerick?

William Wallace b.1849 and his brother Richard were fishermen.

William was my gg grandfather and he died in 1881. His son Edward Wallace b.1876 died 1918, is my great grandfather.

I know little about Jane Dwyer my gg grandmother, but believe her family were bakers.

Other names that appear in my tree who married Wallaces at the turn of the century are Roughan, Farrell, Carroll and Keyes.

      Looking at Wm.Wallace (b.1849). . . St.Munchin's Limerick . . his Mother is listed as Mary Kennedy ( Roots.Ireland). . his Father Richard Wallace . .

When we look ar his brother Richard . . we find TWO ..Richard;s . . born to the same Mother ..in .. 1846 and 1854

So. . can we conclude that Richard (1846). . is deceased within 8 years . . and Richard (1854) is his replacement.

    • Edward:

In addition to the information that Eamonn provided, I found six children of William and Jane on Roots Ireland: John Richard May 31, 1870 (civil record just showed Richard) Mary 1872 Anne 1874 Edward 1876 Bridget 1878 and Catherine 1880. The civil record for Catherine is shown below including the address. She was baptized at St. Muchins.

Also, the father, William Wallace, also had three older siblings: James 1839 Michael 1841 Catherine 1844.

Thank you for your generous replies.

Edward Wallace my great grandfather married Bridget Brennan in 1899, and is on the 1901 in Tipp, then 1911 in Limerick with kids including my gran, Annie aged 1.

It's really his mother, Jane Dwyer's side, that is difficult. Reason being, there are two Jane Dwyers which look likely: Jane of Edward Dwyer circa 1840. Jane of William Dwyer circa 1847.

The GRO have told me there's no available marriage cert for her marriage to William Wallace 1870, and the parish record doesn't cite their fathers' names.

I'm leaning towards Edward Dwyer, as I found reference to an Edward Dwyer as a baker in a trades directory.

Some research done in the 80s by another family member mentioned the 'Dwyers' were in the bakery business but no citation.

James b.1839 I didn't know about - result. Thank you!!

    • Edward, Eamonn, and others:

I too am a Wallace from Limerick!  Here is what I was told:

Michael Wallace born 1800 in Limerick (d. 1875, Utica, NY)

Married Katherine O'Shaughnessy, also from Limerick (no birth, marriage, or death date)

Seven children:  John Francis (my ancestor) Feb 1 1839, Patrick, Michael, Mary, Josephine, Kathryn, Charles.

John Francis came to America, married Kate Margareta Murphy of Cahir, Tipperary (b 1848) in Manhattan, 5/20/1868.

Ten children, of which my ggf William Donaldson Wallace was one.

I am not skilled with the databases yet, and I just received this information from my mother.  Any and all assistance or advice is warmly welcomed.  I will come to Limerick one day and stand you a cold one at the pub, of course.
