Hi, I found this marriage in Allihies Parish, Co. Cork, for Eugene Dudley & Mary Hanley, 15 Feb 1843. You can see in the left column the names of the groom and bride. Then the entry lists the wrong surname for the groom; it lists 'Sullivan'...strange, I'm sure it's a mistake.

Can anyone tell me what the second line says? I know it's the place where the groom and bride are from, but I can't find a match. Possibly 'Durrus' for the groom and 'Seaivague' for the bride?

Any help is appreciated!

    I couldn't decipher the record or find it on either rootsireland or iris genealogy.

    However in the Tithe Applotments (free site) there are 3 Dudleys in Dursey Island Kilimichael & 1 in Dursey Island Ballincaligh in 1827

    Closest guess for the Hanleys is Buavanagh

    the last word of the second line might be Scrivogue ?? This is just guesswork but there does seem to be such a townland in Cork sometimes spelt Scrivoge.

  • Yes it is Scrivogue.  The Dudleys were a branch of the O'Sullivans.  It is not Durrus but Dursies or Durseys, as the natives of Dursey Island were called.  You may also find it referred to in places by its Gaelic name of Baoi.  My reply on the West Cork Genealogy Facebook page gives you a direct link to your distant cousin, David Dudley.  If there is a need for further general conversation on the matter then I invite you to seek out the Beara Genealogy Facebook Group, which is probably a more appropriate place for such discussion.  Ken
