Greetings from Houston, Texas! I'm looking for any relations and or ancestors of Hugh P. Devers born 1836 anfd immigrated to Pennsylvania around 1850. My mother and. Will be staying in Letterkenny in August. It would be sooooo grand to meet some long forgotten cousins and share a pint! Please let me know.

Lisa,
I looked in the current Irish phone book but did not find any Dever(s) households listed in Co Donegal. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any living there because a lot of people aren’t listed these days but it suggests there won’t be many.

Hi Lisa,
Hugh would've been call Hugh Diver when growing up in Donegal or in the the Gaelic native Irish form Ó Duibhir. The pronouncation of Diver is Dee -i-ver and not the underwater version. When he left Donegal, more than likely illiterate his name was phonetically recorded by officialdom as Devers.
Diver is an native Irish clan in Donegal with pockets scattered throughout the county but more commonly in the parishes of Meevagh and Gweedore (Tullaghobegley West).
