My gg grandfather came from Ballinvreena and Ballinagrana. Born about 1856, his name was Patrick Quinlan Murphy, son of Michael Murphy (farmer) and Johanna Quinlan. He left for Australia 1879/80 with his new wife - Bridget O'Loughlin, also of Limerick.

Most of what I have done so far is plough through records - and it has been a journey of several decades now. Since joining ancestry over a year ago  I have made some wonderful contacts and gone ahead leaps and bounds.

What I'd love is some photos or stories of the area .. from the mid 1850s on. Maybe an archival newspaper subscription?

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to go about this.

Thanks in anticipation

Carmel

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Your best bet is to contact the main library in Limerick city. This link https://www.limerick.ie/living/localinformation/libraries shows the library branches. The next to last listing is for the main library.

  • Hello Carmel,

Can't really help with your question but you may find the following links of interest.

The first are aerial photos of the Kilteely/Pallasgreen area.
The second is a website where you can compare maps of the past with the current.

  • Hi Carmel - I'm late to this chain as I've just joined today (also sorry for not answering your question), but our family trees might be connected.  My 2nd great-grandmother is Katherine Quinlan (b1846) daughter of William Quinlan (b1810) and Honora Herbert (b1813).  All from the Ballinlough/Kilteely area.

It does look like my Quinlan family left a few years after yours, most signs pointing to 1883 and settled in Chicago, IL.

Would love to connect if possible and see if we can find a connection through our research!
