Troy and murphy from Curraghkilbran townland Galbally limerick

There are no Troys as you say in the Griffith's Valuation in Galbally townland but there are two listings in the townland of CURRAGHKILBRAN in Galbally. If you get a chance during your trip home, you could try to spend a few hours in the Valuation Office in Dublin.

Ask them for the 'Cancelled Books' for the above townland and you will be able to see who paid the rate on the land from the period of the Griffith's Valuation up to the 1860s or perhaps 1980s.

It is assumed that the person paying the rate owned the land and sometimes the same family stayed generation after generation. You an read more here

I have images for the Land Revision Book for Anglesborough which contains Curraghkilbran.  I can only find Troy in that townland, no Murphys.  Should I be looking for Murphy in a different townland?

1865  Lot 3 was divided.  John Daly took 17 of 19 acres in lot 3.  Patrick troy retained 2 acres and the house defined as lot 4A

1877:  Reps of Patrick Troy (presumably because he died)
1881:  David Keane
1884:  Michael O'Donnell
1911:  Michael O'Donnell - Land Act Purchase indicating he became owner.
1935:  Rodger O'Donnell
1970:  John Sweeney

Dear tim thank you for this. I didn't know about the land revision books. Thank you for the information about more recent ownership of the land where Patrick Troy lived. I do know that John and Patrick Murphy are in curraghkilbran in  tithe books, and a Murphy was next door to Patrick Troy. The Griffiths valuation show a different Murphy, William, in this townland.  I know murphys and related noonans were in duntreyleague. I have also found Margaret Murphy married to Patrick was born in curraghkilbran in 1811. Her parents were Edmund Murphy and Judy jones. I am not sure whether either of them was born there or elsewhere. Is curraghkilbran near anglesborough  township ? Regards Tania Sweeney 

Dear Tim your response has been extremely useful. Another Ireland reaching out member found that Patrick Troy died in curraghkilbran in 1876 at the age of 74. The executor of his will was Mary Troy a daughter born in 1827. The record was registered in the Union of anglesborough/ mitchelstown. Thank you again Tania Sweeney

You may have missed a marriage in Kilbehenny register 27 Feb 1827 between Michael Murphy & Mary Troy witnesses are hard to read but look like an Edmond ----,  G--k Troy , Mary L--- . 

The surname Troy is well recorded during the 18th century in Limerick city - another possibility of origins 

There is a connection between the Murphy families  of Curraghkilbran & Garrynalyna - I will email this information to you 

Some of the Daly's ,  Murphy's and other tenants  who resided  Curraghkilbran ended up in Fitchburg Massachusetts USA - again , I will email this information to you ..

Patrick Troy and Margaret Murphy are my great great great grandparents.  Their son John Troy is the father of Robert(Henry) Troy who is my great grandfather. He was married to my great grandmother Alice Louisa Basse and they lived in Victoria. 

Dear Leanne thank you for your reply. It's a while since I've looked at my Troy file but I recall some of the Wood family also descendants have been in touch. If you send me your email address I can send you photos of the Troy land in curraghkilbran (trip back in 2017) and my notes on the Troy family. Patrick and Margaret also had three girls but I've been unable to trace their descendants. 

My cousin Aaron Troy is now leading the research on our Troys.I'll ask him whether I can pass on his email to you.
