Hello,
I have been researching family history of my Great Grandmother, Delia(Bridget)Kane. I am aware while searching this particular surname of the many spelling variations I have come across. On her Naturalization Papers (New York) she states she is from Dunmore, Galway. Her death certificate indicates parents as Michael Kane and Bridget (unknown). In searching, I have found a possible connection to a Michael Keane and Bridget Connelly as most likely her parents as the dates and locations they were in Dunmore (Milltown/Addergoole & Liskeevy/Dawros) would make sense. I find them also in the 1901 and 1911 census. I am hoping this is correct and if so, she had other siblings, Patrick, Catherine, Thomas C., John, Winifred, Michael J., Mary Anne, and possible others. I believe she was the twin sister of Michael (born 1877). I have also traced brothers Michael and Thomas C. living in Chicago, Illinois. Michael(of Milltown) applied for a US Passport and attached a letter stating he was returning to Ireland as his brother Paddy had died (1919) and his father was ill. Found a record (Calendar of Wills) linking brother Paddy(Patrick) to "Railway House Milltown-Merchant-County Galway".
Does this family sound familiar to anyone who is searching for Keane's in this area? I am hoping to learn anything I can about this family. Perhaps some still live in this area? Where would this family have been buried and if possible, to locate photos of family graves?
Any information would be most greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I assume this is your family in the 1901 census in Dawros Upper? http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Milltown/Dawros_Upp…
Let me contact someone who lives fairly close to Addergoole parish. It will be Monday before you hear anything.

Hello Roger,
Thank you for such a quick reply! Yes, this is the family I am researching. I have been looking through records of many various genealogy sites (Ancestry.com/Family Search/Find My Past, etc) and these were the only Keane's I have found from Dunmore where the location and dates would make sense. Unfortunately my great grandmother's death certificate did not have a surname for her mother,(which would have sealed the deal), but I do know Bridget was her mother's first name and her father was Michael. If not for her Naturalization Papers where she stated Dunmore, Galway was where she was born, I would have never known where to begin looking. I also found a website called Milltown Heritage Group and reached out to them to see if I can learn anything there as well - waiting to hear back.
I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you again and look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Pat
I actually have to go to Addergoole graveyard this week for another poster and will have a look while I am there for any of your family headstones. I will also have a look in Dunmore which is close to me and is already transcribed I believe.
Will get back to as soon as I can
All the best

Hi Pat
So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I took advantage of the Bank Holiday weekend and went to both Kilgevrin and Addergoole graveyards yesterday. You can see from the photo that Addergoole incudes a lot of stone markers where people are buried but where there is no record, as well as many more recent headstones (19th century) that are very faded and illegible.
I didn't find one Keane or Kane entry in either place. However, there is one more graveyard left to check and I hope to get out there next week. Like the others, it is not yet digitised so I will walk though each row and check individually. It's a little bigger than the other but fingers crossed they are mentioned there.
Best wishes

Hi again
The other, last graveyard is digitied! That means you can search from the comfort of your armchair. If you do find anything and want me to go and take a better photo give me a shout as it's only a few minutes away:

Hello,
I'm related to the Keane's from Milltown, Kilclooney, Tuam Galway if this is the same Milltown you're inquiring about? I know there was I believe one of my grandfather's uncles (I think) who got a passport and moved to somewhere near the Bronx in NY. There was a Michael Keane who was my great grandfather. A relative said that there's a Delia Keane also, but I haven't found where they fit into my family tree yet.

Hello Tilly,
Thanks so much for reaching out. I am still trying to learn where in Dunmore my great grandmother Delia Kane(or Keane) was from. It has been quite challenging thus far and at times frustrating. I thought she may have been connected to the Keane's of Dawros, Milltown the family mentioned in my earlier posts here, but that has turned out to not be the case. This fact was learned while my niece studied abroad in Galway last year and she visited that family, who were wonderful and gracious to her. We learned that the Bridget in that family line sadly died when she was 3 1/2 years old, making me incorrect in this connection. I felt very badly about that.
Narrowing down her date of birth is part of the challenge along with her mother's maiden name missing from her death certificate. On various documentation, her date of birth ranges anywhere from 1861 to about 1873. She did live in the Bronx, New York. You mention a Keane relation of yours lived there too? Perhaps a connection to reveal itself someday.
So for now, I still only know the facts that she was from Dunmore, Galway and her parents names were Michael Kane and Bridget "Unknown".
My mother and I have taken the Ancestry.com DNA test and I am hopeful that maybe the answers I seek will come through that way at some point.
There is an excellent website call the Milltown Heritage Group and they were helpful to me during this chapter of my search. You may want to look them up too! Who knows - perhaps we are distant cousins but just don't know it yet!
Good luck to us both in our searches.
Best Regards,
Pat M.
