I've been helping a friend research her family tree and apparently her great grandmother was an Ellen Fitzgerald, born January 1845, Johnstown, Glanworth to John Fitzgerald and Jane (Johanna) Moloney. Her parents were living in lower Manhattan with several children by the 1850 U.S. Federal Census. In the 1855, New York State Census, Ellen and a brother had joined the family responding that they arrived in 1852 whereas the rest of the family arrived in 1850.
In an 1867 bank account with the Emigrant Savings Bank in NYC, Ellen's mother, Jane Ftizgerald indicated that she had arrived in 1850 on the "Isaac Webb" and that her maiden name was Moloney. By that time, her daughter, Ellen, who is listed secondarily on the account was now Ellen Tuohey (Mrs. John Tuohey)
Just wondering as to whether there are still Fitzgeralds and Moloneys in the Parish or in the townland of Johnstown in Particular.
Warm Regards from NYC,
Ed Stewart

The Tithe Applotments 1823 - 37 may be worth checkin (free online) & the early Irish Censuses - I tried but neither seems to be working at the moment!
