Hi,
My great-great-grandfather Patrick (Patt) Connor was buried in Killummod Cemetery in May 1916. Patt was aged about 80, and therefore born around 1835/36, probably in Killummod.
Patt married Ellen Cox on 19/2/1860 in Kiltoghert. They had two children - Mary (?) and Michael.
Patt had 6 or 7 siblings, including Michael, Catherine, Bridget, Ellen, Anne, Luke.
- Catherine (Mulhern) was buried in Killummod Cemetery in October 1906
- Bridget (Murray) was buried in Killukin Cemetery, Carrick-on-Shannon
- Anne (Goldrick) was buried in Kiltoghert.
Patt's father, Michael Connor, was also burried in Killummod Cemetery.
Michael Connor may have married a Miss McCormack, but I don't have any details.
In 1857, Griffith's Valuation has a Michael Connor living in Carrowmore, Killummod.
Can anyone help with information on the Connor family in Killummod, eg Michael Connor and Miss McCormack please ?
Many thanks,
Clive O'Connor

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We just noticed that you had not received a response to your query.
I looked on Roots Ireland and found a marriage record in the Aughrim RC parish which is just below Croghan/Killummod/Killucan parish. Do you think this is the record you are looking for? Here is a link to the Aughrim parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0539

Hi,
Thank you very much for tracking down the marriage between Connor and McCormack.
I looked up the NLI Registers for Aughrim, but I can't find the marriage in the Register for that date. I looked through the Register no. 04610 / 04. Have you any further guidance on how I can find the entry please ?
Thanks again,
Clive

Clive:
I think the index for the register is incorrect and it took you to baptisms for 1831. The marriages were in 4610/05. The entry is below and the info is in Latin but clearly shows Michael Connor and Mary McCormick

There were lots of Connors baptising in the Catholic parish of Killukin & Killummod (now Croghan) in the early 19th Century However, by the time land records beging here, few are named. McCormack is also numerous.
Parish Baptismal records confirm an address in 1816 for Bernard Connor & Margaret Beirne to the west of the parish at Carrowmore. Their descendants do appear on land records. See Thomas Connor, Carrowmore [TA1842] and Michael Connor at farm #11 Carrowmore [GV1857] descendants. These Connors were typically interred at Killapogue and Estersnow Cemetery to the west of the parish (not Killummod, which is to the east, nearer Kiltoghert, Carrick on Shannon).
To the east of the parish, within range of Killummod cemetery, the 1842 Tithe Apploment records reveal a Mary Connor (probably a widow) in the townland of Dacklin which is beside the townland of Killummod (to the west). This is probably a good starting point for you. She may be Mary nee McCormack, but there is no evidence of her on parish records.
You can find numerous Michael Connors baptising in the parish of Croghan in the early 1830s...
- Michael Connor & Catherine Byrne Keane (baptising 1817)
- Michael Connor & Brigid Keane (baptising 1817)
- Michael Connor & Mary Byrne (Patrick born 24-Mar-1830)
- Michael Connor & Mary Taughran (baptising 1814-32)
- Michael Connor & Mary McGrath (baptising 1831)
- Michael Connor & Margaret Brennan (baptising 1831-42)
and so on...
No Connor + McCormack baptisms at all recorded in the parish. None for a Michael Connor + McCormack anywhere in Co. Rsocommon. In 1833, a John Connor & Mary McCormic are baptising in the parish of Roscommon. A Patrick Connor & Catherine McCormack were baptising children in the townland of Canbo in 1871. Sin é.
Hope this helps!

Thank you again for all your research - the townlands have always confused me.
I came across a Maurice Connor, Killummod on the Roscommon Flax Growers list of 1796.
Could Maurice be Michael Connor's father / grandfather ?
That said, none of my extended Connor family have Maurice as a first name.

Maurice may have been a sibling or a cousin. There had to be way more other options for a father. (Grazing cattle rather than growing flax).
That there are 6 Michael Connors, baptising children in the parish circa 1817, suggests there was a progenitor named Michael.
So what you might next check out is the Elphin Census of 1749, which will pinpoint the townlands any Connor was in. (see FindMyPast.ie for access to these records).
That said, the parish of Killummod (especially around Canbo) was O'Connor and McDermott territory for eons.

Hi Rua!
Any interest in becoming a volunteer or perhaps a parish liaison in Roscommon? Thanks!

Clive:
FYI Morpeth Roll 1841 reveals signatures of 2 Connors in the parish
(a) William Connor
(b) Patrick Connor
Morpeth Roll of 1841 see image 605 (even though this falls between 2 Ulster pages, it is without a doubt the page signed by parishoners of Killummod & Killukin aka Croghan, Boyle Co Roscommon. The 1842 Tithe Applotment Records match up almost perfectly).

Roger
What do these roles involve?

Rua:
Thanks for getting back to me. Basically there are two roles: researcher and parish liaison. Some of the other duties on this link are extraneous http://www.irelandxo.com/volunteer-0 A researcher would be someone who would help with messages for one or more parishes. I assume you are in Roscommon somewhere. A parish liaison is more involved. You manage the parish web site pages and are responsible for "meet and greets" if someone visits your parish. Let me know.if you have more questions.
