Celebrate one of the most important Gaelic families in medieval Connemara at Aughnanure Castle Heritage Site in Oughterard, Co. Galway.
FREE Events include a talk on the history of the O'Flaherty medieval lordship of Iarchonnacht, traditional Irish music, face-painting for children and a commemoration to the last O'Flaherty to own the castle, Peadar O'Flaherty, who gifted the castle to the OPW in 1952. We will unveil a plaque dedicated to Peadar O'Flaherty and raise the O'Flaherty flag from the castle ramparts.
