Hi there

I'm struggling trying to trace an ancestor.

Edmond Lalor (Ned) from Kilteely. b1855-d1939. Also spelled Lawlor. Apparently they were one of the Fenian Lalors, does anyone know what that means? He had at least one sister that we know of, Bridget.

Married around 1877 to Bridget Pender, who I was told came from Lackmore, Cappawhite, Co Limerick. I found this confusing as Cappawhite is actually in Tipperary - maybe they just meant near Cappawhite but on the Limerick side of the county border?

At some stage they moved to Annagh, Co Limerick (1901 census), and had at least 10 children, of whom 8 survived. Johanna (from Murroe). Patsy (Annagh). Johnny. Joseph. Edmond. Mary. Kathleen and James.

many thanks for any help

Brian

I located the civil marriage record on Roots Ireland. They were married in the Newport RC church on January 3, 1877. Bridget was shown as Bridget Pinders and Edward was Edward Lawler. His father was Edward and her father was Garrett. Edward was living in Lackamore and Bridget was living in Annah (sp)

  • Dear Roger

thanks very much the response! That was very helpful. Once I had a date and location, I was able to track down the marriage record on http://registers.nli.ie/pages/vtls000632658_108 However, that shows no mention of the father's names, so your info is very helpful. One thing that's puzzling is that Bridget's surname appears to be Prendergast, although it is difficult to read. Penders/Pinders are unusual names, so it may very well be that Prendergast is the right surname.

Is there any sign of a birth record for either Edmond or Bridget on that website you use?

    many thanks

    Brian

I'm using Roots Ireland. I saw an March 30, 1856 baptismal record for a Bridget Prendergast in the Kilcommon RC church records. Father Garret and mother Margaret Hewitt. There were a number of Edward Lawler (and variant) baptismal records with father Edward but without knowing his mother's name you can't confirm any record.

  • Many thanks Roger, you've been really helpful. I'm very grateful.

Would be nice to hear from a Kilteely local as to the significance of the Fenians reference.

    best wishes

  • Hello again, I'm back with more info/questions.
I found a record of one of Edmond & Bridgets sons, also called Edmond. It's from 1877, so I'm hoping to be able to find it on the NLI's register online. But I don't know which parish to search under.

Does anyone have any more info about this record?

    thanks
