My grandmother, Catherine McCarthy, was born on April 24, 1881 to John McCarthy (blacksmith) and Bridget Griffin.  She had sisters Margaret (b. 1859), Hannah (b. 1870), Bridget (b. 1872), Julia (b. 1874), Helena (b. 1877), and Honora (b. 1879).  Most of the sisters immigrated to the New York area.  We know she had brothers who we have been told all remained in Ireland.  The names of the potential brothers gleaned from the birth records on RootsIreland are John (b. 1858), Michael (b. 1864), James (b. 1866), and Matthew (b. 1868).   Any help on determining what happened to the brothers would be appreciated.

  • Hi Rory

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out

Have you used the NLI site to see if you can find any potential marriage records for the boys? Even though they would have married in the bride's home parish this may have taken place in Kilfinane or in a neighbouring parish. Also if you can find them in the 1911 parish it will also give you something solid to go on.

    Best wishes
