Further to my original message I can add that Michael CAREY  moved to England where he married Maria CULLIN and they had 6 children:   Michael b1827, Mary Ann b1832, Ellen b1833, Edward b1834, Walter b1836 and Catherine b1838.  Catherine CAREY married Edward Reuben STRICKLAND in 1864.  When Catherine died in 1879 Edward married her cousin, Ellen SULLIVAN (whose mother was Ellen CAREY from Kildorrery who had married Thomas SULLIVAN from Kildorerry in 1810).  Edward and Ellen were my g-grandparents.

I note in a recent message on this notice board from John Walsh that a relative of his married Johanna CAREY b1844, possibly a relation to my CAREY family?

LMB, if you ever come across the following couple, I would love to hear from you. In 1805 Denis Carroll of Kildorrery married Mary Carey of Old Castltown in the RC chapel at Kildorrery, Cornelius Carroll and Timothy Carey were marriage witnesses. I know that the Denis Carroll who married Margaret Kennedy eight years later, in 1813, was my great-great-grandfather. I have been trying to figure out if there was only one Denis Carroll in Kildorrery (the village rather than the parish as I think it is the  village that is referred to in the marriage record) at that time or if there were two. It doesn't seem likely there were two in the village, but I really have no factual evidence at all one way or another.

Denis Carroll and Margaret Kennedy named one of their oldest, perhaps their oldest, son John. This was not a Carroll name, but it was a Kennedy name. I do think Margaret's father was named John. Their son would have been born c1815 - before Baptismal records were kept. John emigrated to Canada and was very consistent with his year of birth on all records - 1815. If he was born in 1815, and his parents were married in the fall of 1813, I am questioning whether or not there was a son born before John. There was a Denis Carroll who would be in John's generation. Some people who have public trees have assigned a Denis Carroll to Denis Carroll and Margaret Kennedy, but they have no source. Denis and Margaret seem to be convenient parents. I am trying to identify a particular Denis Carroll in Kildorrery as a possible older brother to John (married Catherine Fenton and who emigrated to Canada). If he WAS the oldest son, the it is likely my gggrandfather's father was named Denis. The other possibility is that that Denis Carroll who married Mary Carey in 1805 is my Denis and that the Denis Carroll I am researching was the son of Denis Carroll and Mary Carey. That is the scenario I lean towards.

I am interested in anyone who might connect in some way to Denis Carroll and Mary Carey. I think the Daniel Carey who married Mary Fouhy in 1812 might be a brother to Mary who married Denis Carroll because one of the marriage witnesses was Denis Carroll. If anyone traces back to Daniel Carey and Mary Fouhy, I would be interested in being in touch.
