I am searching for any information about my grandfather's family who lived at Cross in the mid to late 1800s and what happened to his siblings.
Father: Thomas Ryan. Mother: Lizzie Frewen
Children: Catherine, 1836; William, 1838; Johanna, 1850; Robert, 1842; John, 1845 (probably died as a child); Patrick, 1846; Mary, 1848; John, 1850; Thomas, 1853; Jeremiah, 1858.
Jeremiah, my grandfather emigrated to the states in 1879 and may have come over with a sibling. He apparently had relatives in Chicago as he worked there for one of them for a time before heading west. I would love to find out more about his family and whether there are any descendants who have any information, photos, etc. to share.

Helen:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Below are links to a Robert Ryan family in Cross in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. Brother William is listed in the 1901 record. There are a few other Ryans in the townland.

Trying to find descendants will be difficult because of how common the surname Ryan is in Limerick. The online phone book (which is only a partial list of phone users) has over 400 Ryans. https://www.eirphonebook.ie/# You are welcome to search to see if anyone lives in Cross. Make sure you use the Residential TAB.
Let me know if you have questions.

Hi Helen
I am familiar with Ryans of Cross as they still lived in that townsland when I was a child. The farm was sold in the 60's when the last brother William passed away unmarried. A sister married a man by the name of Nash in a nearby village and her decendants still live there. The family buriel ground is in Oola Co. limerick I hope this information is of use to you.

Gillian and Helen, well there are certainly a lot of Ryans in the Oola cemetery, which also includes my Reals. I once called the Oola cemetery the "Ryan Cemetery."
One think we found out this past June in visiting Oola and the cemetery along with a Pallas Ryan was that the inter-relationship between Limerick Ryans and most of the other surnames of the area are almost impossible to sort out unless you have a great deal of patience and go into your search with the proper Townlands and full names.
Not familiar with the Ryans of Cross, but we did spend time withe Ryans (minor) or Oola.
Good Luck!

There is also a birth record for another son, Edmund born to "Thomas Ryan and Eliza Fruen" on 6 Jan 1856. The birthplace listed is Cross.
