  • Hi Diane

Rootsireland.ie a pay to view website has 35 church record matches for the name Magone in County Down. One example is Mary Magone who is the only Magone baptised in Newry on the 9th June 1820 parents John and Catherine Magone, all other Magone's are outside Newry

The 1911 census of Ireland shows 19 matches for the Magone surname mainly in Drumgath and Clonallan Upper in County Down

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=19…

There are 321 Fegan people mentioned in the same 1911 census in County Down where from 51 in Newry, while Rootsireland has 205 church records for the surname Fegan for Newry

The British BT phonebook online has 4 entries for Magone in Newry http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/s…

    Hope this helps

  • Thank you so much!  My great grandparents are listed in the 1911 census as living with their two sons and a servant in Bavan, Clonallen Upper (Hugh & Agnes Magone).  Shortly after this census, they returned to the US where they lived until their deaths.

I especially appreciate the addresses and the phone numbers of the four Magones who are still living in the area and suspect that they are somehow related to my branch of the family.  I will be contacting them soon to see what the relationship is.

    Thanks again!
