Hello I will be visiting Sligo County this October and would appreciate any help I can get! I plan to be in Sligo town Oct 5-7, then Riverstown for a week, then I have a few days left that are unplanned. Documentation that I have/previous research by others seems to place my family - the Allens and Morrisons (Church of England/Ireland) - around Ballysadare/Tobertelly/Riverstown areas early to mid 1800's. My 2x great grandparents, William & Margery (Morrison) Allen immigrated to Canada in 1847. Parents of William are Robert & Sarah; parents of Margery are likely John & Margaret.
Thanks!

Hello Irishroots,
The attached is a map of the principle Church of Ireland locations south of Ballysadare with a number of historical ecclesiastical sites. What would be regarded as Roman Catholic burial grounds have not been included.

Thank you for the map - that's alot of churches! Where is the best place to search for Ballysadare Church of England records - from abt 1800 and up? Do the churches actually have them onsite?

I suggest you make contact with http://ireland.anglican.org/information/63 to ascertain what copies may be held locally or whether a visit to their offices is required if any remain for the period under research.

I am interested in the Allen surname in IRELAND. Please see the below inforamtion and reply if you or someone you know would have interest in the project.
The ALLEN y-DNA Project & The ALLEN Guild of One Name Studies
The Allen DNA Project is partnering with the Allen Guild of One Name Studies in an exciting new Research Endeavor. The Allen DNA Project is a USA based group, but is very interested in expanding our membership to a world-wide audience by actively seeking out Allens from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Mainland Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or anywhere else on the planet. Additionally, any spelling variation of the Allen surname is welcome: Allan, Allyn, Allin, etc.
To this point, FREE yDNA 12 marker tests will be made available to any males carrying the Allen surname and residing outside the United States who are willing to join the project and participate in the testing. This involves no blood or needles, only a cotton swab rubbed on the inner cheek.
The only requirement for a free yDNA test is a known Allen/Allan (any spelling) lineage to at least the participant’s Great Grandfather Allen/Allan (any spelling) in any country. Additionally, The Allen DNA Project is setting aside a specific Sub-group within the Project with a full commitment of assistance from Allen Project Co-Administrator Dr. Eric Allen who will be overseeing this specific International Sub-group.

Gerlish - I tried your link but could not see any records. The link took me to https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/agreement.jsp - a box with an 'agreement' came up with the following: Section 61 of the Civil Registration Act, 2004 provides for a member of the public to make an application to an tArd-Chláraitheoir to search the indexes to the Births, Deaths and Marriages registers. When I agreed and clicked the 'submit' box, I got a page that said "Not Found".

I am not having much luck with links unfortunately. I am thinking of spending a couple of days in Sligo City visiting the Heritage & Genealogy Centre - I believe they have records there or databases that I can access? Has anyone used their facility to research records in person?
