I would like to discover more about my Miller Ancestors who lived in Derrylossary and later in Rathdrum. Arthur Miller was a Farmer and listed on Griffith's Valuation Transcriptions 1844 - 1854. The Lessor's name was Roger Mahon, Townland was Brockagh, Civill Parish Derrylossary and Barony Ballinacor North, Poor Law Union was Rathdrum. Arthur Miller was in 1814 Leet's Director (2nd Edition) listed as Major Arthur Miller, Ovoco Cottage, Rathdrum, Wicklow. I am thinking that his son James Miller was my 3 x Gt Grandfather who immigrated to Morton Bay, Australia (Qld) in 1855 with his wife Mary (nee Gregory) and 5 daughters. James Miller is listed in Ireland Valuation Office Books Transcriptions as Townland Ballygannon, Parish Rathdrum, Barony Ballinacor North from 1842 - 1853. I can not find marriages for either of the above or a death for Arthur Miller. Other Millers in the area are Widow Miller 1854 occupier Castlekevin, Rosanna Miller occuper 1854 Derrybaun and Rose Miller 1844 Derrybawn. Any help would be so appreciated.Vicki

Hi, By coincidence I'm also looking into Millers from the Derrylossary area of Wicklow. We believe my Great Great Grandfather was from the area...his name was William Miller b1845 and he left Ireland to join the British Army (Royal Artillery) c1860's. We've struggled to find any further records, so would be intrigued to understand if you have any further background regarding James Miller - maybe the two were connected in some way? One of William's daughters was subsequently named Rosanna so we've always thought there was a connection to the widow youve also captured by the same name from Derrybawn. Also, there is a William Thomas Miller listed in the same area - who looks like he's a farmer based on the land rented. Patrick Miller.

Hi Patrick,
I would love there to be a connection and I am sure there is as Miller is not a very common name in this area. At the moment I can't help but I have sent away for a DNA kit and when the results come back in 6 - 8 weeks, it will be interesting to see if I can find someone. Have you had your DNA tested as we could match up. Just have to keep looking for clues won't we. I must say what little I have found is more than I had hoped to given that all the records were said to be destroyed in 1822.
Good luck. Vicki

Hi Vicki - apologies for the delay, been away and spending some time on other half of the family history where I've had some more success (may be meeting some distant cousins in New York!) I haven't managed to make any more progress with the Millers in the Derrylossary area, but will spend some time over coming weeks having another look.
