I am so happy to say that Roger McDonnell sent me tonight the baptism records of my great grandfather Wm. J. Carroll and his brother, Patr'k H. Carroll and I finally know my Carroll's are from the Roman Catholic Parish Togher. The family lived in Drumcar townland in Drumcar civil parish, County Louth, Ireland. These 2 were baptized back in 1847 and 1848. It may be futile to think that some Carroll relatives may still live in that area, but if so, I'd love to get in touch with them. I am descended from William J. Carroll born in 1848. He came to Philadelphia, PA, in the USA and was a horseshoer by trade. He met and married Anna Gertrude Coyle, whose father owned & operated Hugh B. Coyle Ironworks on Filbert St. in Old City Philadlephia. William worked for Anna's dad Hugh and eventually married the boss's daughter. Their son William Joseph Carroll is my grand-pop and his son, William Joseph Carroll is my dad. I am the yongest of my dad's children, Patti Carroll, now Bennett. My oldest sibling is also named after the William's, he is Wm. Jos. Carroll, III and his son is the IV and his grand-son is the V. I've done extensive work on my family tree and would love to share with anyone who thinks they may be related. William & Patrick's parents are Nicholas Carroll and Catherine McKenna. There was a first born son, Michael who was born in Ireland & went to the USA. I don't have much info. on him at this point. There are 6 more children after my great-grandfather Wm., they are Rosanna b.1853 in Phila., PA, USA and was married and widowed 3 times to Richard F. Phealen in 1877, to Patrick J. Buckley in 1898, and to Phibbs Walter Cullen in 1904, d. unkown, sometime after 1950; John 1854-1862; Nicholas James 1855-1896; James Nicholas 1858 - 1925; Thomas Henry 1860 - 1939; and lastly, Mary Jane b. 1863 & married Thomas Augustus Murphy in Phila., PA, USA in 1890, I've not been able to find her death certificate as of yet. The father Nicholas had one brother that I am aware of, his name was John Carroll born 1835 in Ireland, d. 1910 in NYC, NY, USA. Nicholas & John's father was John Carroll or O'Carroll born in Armagh or Louth, Ireland abt. 1798 and d. 1858 in Phila., PA, USA. Next message I will include all of the spouse's names and sponsors' names of baptisms and marriages. I haven't fully explored who they all are and how they are related.
So happy to know where my Carroll's come from!. Thanks so much Roger & Ireland XO, Pat Carroll Bennett

Pat:
Hello again!
I checked the online Irish phone book which is a partial list of phone users (non-cell). Most of the Carrolls were either near Dundalk or Drogheda and I did not see any Drumcar records. Let me contact our Co. Louth expert and see if he has any suggestions.

Hi Pat
Roger asked me to look at this query which I had previously noticed, the online phonebook is more acessible locally and I see a single entry for the name, I dislike posting information on living people so if you email me at stpeters@irelandxo.com we can chat about it, but I do not think it is a relative from the address but I am only guessing.
Drumcar is still fairly rural, in 1854 there was a land census done and there are 7 Carrolls in Drumcar, may not be 7 different people but there is a map of each plot which you can access from the site and move the bar to the modern map. See http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ It is possible to trace the land title to the present day but you have to do it in person in Dublin.
Also Louth is a county and so is Armagh (now in Northern Ireland and UK) but Armagh is a RC diocese including the counties of Armagh and Louth so when you see Louth Armagh on the record, the county is Louth in the Diocese of Armagh. I honestly think the more I try to explain this the more incoherent I get.
There is an interesting site for Louth which will not have info on your Carrolls but has lists which may assist. http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/
I live about 10 miles from Drumcar so do not know anyone locally, I have to head off now and will be away most of tomorrow so be patient if you mail me. I can send you more info on the area and things of interest nearby plus if you need info on hotels or transport.
To prevent name confusion I am a male Pat.
