I haven't been able to find a baptism record for an Edward, nor is there any listing for a Robinson in Slater's Commercial Directory of Ireland 1846 (Ulster-Antrim) that I searched on the off-chance that his father might have been a Shoemaker too. Generally speaking Methodist parish records start quite late and are mostly in line in terms of availability as the civil registrations of births, marriages and deaths that begin in 1864.

Do you have membership of Ancestry.com or Find My Past as it might be a good idea to cast a wide net there to see if you can locate anything from a lesser used source like a newspaper or directory. 

​​It might be a good idea too, to keep an eye on the Early Birth and Marriage Index. It is updated regularly and if your ancestor doesn't appear now, they may in the future. ​

As Clare has said, Methodism started quite late in Ireland. The earliest baptisms date to 1818. So for someone born around 1808, there would not have been a Methodist baptism. He would have been baptised in the Church of Ireland. You have put this post under Antrim town. Their baptism Churhc of Ireland records start in the late 1600s but they are not on-line. There is a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast.
