Good morning from New York!  Am looking for Sugrue connections.

Have not been able to find the final resting spot for my g-g-grandfather, Cornelius Sugrue.  His last child, Bridget Veronica, was born in NYC in 1868.  His wife, Mary Shea Sugrue, died as a widow in 1890 in NYC.  We think he was older than Mary, whose birth year was 1836 (per death records) in Ireland (also Kerry?).

Thank you, in advance, for any advice/connections you might find!

    Welcome back and thanks for your support of IRO. Co. Kerry church records are on www.irishgenealogy.ie I located two Cornelius Sugrue baptismal records in Kenmare parish prior to 1836. See below. Did Cornelius and Mary go back to Ireland from NYC?

  • Thank you, Roger, for the information!  Of the two entries, I might go for the second one due to the date AND the name Denis.  One of Cornelius and Mary's sons was named Denis......another John.....and three girls:  Anna, Bridget Veronica, Catherine.

    Mary Shea Sugrue remained in NYC until her death in 1890.  Cornelius disappeared from NYC records by 1878 (Mary appeared a widow in a NYC Directory that year).

    Denis and Catherine and John never married. They are buried together in a grave purchased in 1860 by Honorah Costello (NOT a family name we know....).
