Hi, there are several names listed but not all relationships are shown. Apart from the William Peacock who emigrated to New Zealand, are the other Peacocks listed all confirmed ancestors? I may have a connection to the Thomas Peacock and Ann Ashton who you mention and have previously identified this couple as being of potential interest to my own line but need to understand whether they are your earliest known, and confirmed, ancestors?  Brian

Hi, thanks for your reply. I don't have much confirmed information except William Peacocke's marriage certificate says he is the son of Gough Peacocke and Eliza Peacock, father's trade is chandler and that he was 30 years when married in 1856. His eldest son was William, second son Thomas, third Simon and fourth Alfred James. All the other names are ones I have found and feel might fit. Shona

Hi Shona, were they Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic - mine were Church of Ireland? My hope, and main interest, was in the Peacock / Ashton marriage and it doesn't sound as if you have anything substantive to link this marriage to your family? My interest is that the Peacock family married into my Newman line and two generations later the name Ashton was given to one of the children. The naming conventions used by my ancestors, which were very common in Ireland, suggests that Ashton would have been the surname of the grandmother. I assume you have considered the same re the name Gough, which I would also expect to be a maiden name of his grandmother or certainly an earlier generation. For what it's worth, my ancestor with the middle name of Ashton, married someone called Rutherford Waddell and also emigrated to NZ, settling in Dunedin. Brian

Thanks very much for your reply, and you are correct I don't have proof of much really! Not sure how I would be able to get proof? William was a catholic when he married in Australia. I found Edward ASHTON married Rebecca GOUGH in 1693 and thought they could be the great grandparents of Ann ASHTON who married Thomas PEACOCK. There is a Gough PEACOCK born 1819 St Johns, Limerick (my William was born 1825 St Johns, Limerick - so they could be brothers) Both Gough and William were in 40th regt of foot.

Hello, folks.. I am scratching away at the Peacock(e) family line from the Galway end.  I have found a lot of leads both on this site, check MOYRUS parish,  and on the ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY FORUM  site.  Service in the Police inevitably meant that married men had to move around the country hence place of birth of children could be anywhere.
